IF I were to buy an AR15?

I'll put a plug in for LMT rifles. I have two and they are great.

For range work, the barrel length doesn't really matter. 16in is a good compromise between handiness and retention of muzzle velocity.

Have to disagree with that. I saw a Stag the other day that had the front sight base visibly canted off to one side. This was on a brand new rifle. We sent the owner back to the store where he bought it and they went through their entire inventory only to find that every single one of their Stag rifles had the same canted front sight base.

That customer decided he wasn't happy with a brand new rifle that had such an obvious defect so he came and let us build him a custom rifle. We spent a whole bunch of time going through options and choices and in the end the rifle turned out beautifully. You should have seen the smile on his face when he saw it all completed.

BTW this is it and to be honest it looks even better in person.

To anyone who doubts the quality of a custom built rifle. This thing is dripping in Colt, Magpul, Daniel Defence, and YHM parts. It is all the best of the best.

Ive seen a few ARs like this most people never even notice if its slightly off, you can usually fix it by loosening the barrel nut and retourqing it again while holding the FSB on a jig or someone helping hold it against the tourqe.

This is why I always like free float foregrips with flip up sights better that standard FSB, that and for scope mounting.

Arms East has 20" rifles with government profiled 1/7 barrels for $1399 without the carry handle sights. Just like what you were issued but brand new and should be reliable. I have a Stag 4R (20" heavy barrel) now with 7250 rnds down the pipe and only one stoppage so far (from me failing to seat the mag properly). My advice is to skip the custom build and put the money where it really matters, quality optics and training.

Yep, those expensive custom rifles really suck .... :onCrack:

ARMK12Mod0.JPG

Just put this one together today. It is Crane MK12Mod0 inspired and has a heavy stainless match 5R barrel, carbon fibre PRI forend with rails, PRI flip up front sight block, ARMS 40L flip up rear sight, ASA side cocking upper (for easy manipulation with optics mounted) and a Magpul PRS stock.

But don't concern yourself with all the shiny, go-fast bits, I'm sure your buddies will think that $900 Norinco is just as cool. cp:

Get to work building my ASA side charger upper. :)

Yer barrel is in the lathe as we speak. I could go back and see if I could help speed things along by beating on it with a 5 lb sledge if you like? :p

Nice!! I was thinking maybe more along the lines of clubing hippies and flat bill douches with it, you gota test the harmonics right?

I have a 10.5 lmt that works great. About 6-700 rounds down the pipe and not one problem. would def. buy another lmt.

also just recieved my RRA Varmint today with 24' ss barrel and prs stock. Cant comment yet on how it shoots but it sure looks ###y:D would have been an lmt if they made one like it.

I have seen a few custom ATR built AR's and they are definitately very nice. The lower is in a class of its own. If you can afford to still get high quality optics and some ammo that would be the way to go!

I guess if your range is <200m you are right. If your range is longer you are wrong.
