If Lead goes Dead . what's your choice

There is nothing environmentally unfriendly about elemental lead.

Elemental lead forms lead oxide, which isn't toxic. For lead to be toxic, it has to form soluble compounds with other reactive chemicals. That doesn't really happen in nature. The lead we use was mined from the earth. Putting it back into the earth as fired projectiles is simply putting it back where it came from, in the same form we removed it as.

Lead shot is an entirely different problem than lead projectiles. The two have ZERO in common.

If shooters don't understand this, how can we have an expectation that uninterested people and idiot politicians can be made to understand the facts surrounding this issue? ALL shooters need to educate themselves on the issues and facts so that we can convey such to others.

ALWAYS. :(

I agree, generally, but is there really nothing harmful at all about shooting lead ammo, environmentally? Say, water runoff and streams near where people shoot quite a bit? Like a pit on public land, etc?

For me the issue is more conservation related...I strongly believe in the hunter being a conservationist and knowing and caring more for wildlife than the general public. With that in mind, no one had to force me to make the transition to alternative forms of shot, bullet and sinker etc. The list of species harmed by lead is a pretty long one, even without counting us.

That said, if there is a body of published evidence that the lead in bullets where decent amount of shooting takes place does not introduce higher, harmful lead levels into the surrounding environment, I'd be really interested in reading it. Goes a lot farther than the "well, lead comes from the earth" argument with me. Lots of things come from the earth and aren't really great to dump around lol.

^ the perceived issue in California is endangered birds eating the viscera of animals shot with lead and getting lead poisoning not environmental contamination

Condors.

Think I remember reading once that isotope analysis can really pin down where the lead came from...but its a ##### for non-endangered birds too. Especially after a gopher shoot/similar.

I hope the gov doesn’t ban lead projectiles.. That would be ridiculous! But, I did decide to try copper after watching a video showing how far lead fragments can spread through a deers tissue after being shot. Having high levels of lead in your blood already, makes you think twice before adding more.

Same...think it should be a personal choice. But if one believes in the hunter as a major agent of conservation I really don't see how its much of a choice lol.

Worthwhile for a hunter/shooter/reloader (and even more so all three!) to get a blood level check too. Bet handling reloading equipment gets ya before eating lead game does but still. Bigger concern would be pregant women/children.

People could say "my family ate a ton of wild game killed with lead bullets forever...no one died". Sure, but maybe those 10 IQ points would be nice to have back lol

And thats cool! Magnum must help keep those velocities up.

I believe the lead ban for the most part is no more a run around to ban hunting by the Antis. In some cities there is more lead in the piping used for drinking water than you ll ever find in eating wild game.

Has there ever been a lead ban in North America over impacts to human beings?

Because of human beings?

I don't think the lead in pipes was hurting a charismatic, large endangered bird. No doubt anti hunters and anti gun folk weren't crying about the lead ammo ban, but I doubt it was an excuse to or purposely to inflict injury on hunters/shooters.

I agree that there are a lot worse sources of toxicity to humans...but no one in NA has ever banned lead ammo because of the effect on humans....

Yes fer sure on that one. Thanks to the Geoengineering of the global weather system that's been hugely increased by the US Military Industrial Complex since the
1950's, our background air sampling shows a 60,000% increase of aluminum in the air & water over levels measured in 1970. Folks gotta study & realize that the
BS "Global Warming" crap that's been fed the masses is intentional and will soon lead to major societal collapse.

Mining operations & chemical plants add a much more chemical cocktail to the biosphere which is now rapidly going down the slope to unlivable levels.

So yeah, lead is the very least of our worries. It really sucks be in these times. Uuugh. f:P:

In the Nova Scotia yearly hunting pamphlet there has been for the last few years a warning on the effects of human consumption of game animals shot with lead bullets.According to the information when an animal is shot with a high powered cartridge lead particles are distributed throughout the body of the animal beyond the wound area. This was started by a woman biologist who every year just before the hunting season got on her soap box before the news media telling her tale of woe.Though this still does appear in our hunting pamphlets her rederick has slowed down a bit since she has since passed away but it was picking up steam pretty quickly for awhile. This started over protection of the eagle population which is funny in this situation our eagle population has been increasing for years not declining
