If one Springfield can't do it...

tain't nuthin compared to what an m14 can do- and the 03 was NOT the first rifle designed for smokeless- that "honor"- notice the spelling- falls to the win 94-30-30

Actually Gunny said it was the first smokeless cartridge, which is kind of impossible since the 8mm Lebel was adopted in 1886.

They won't let American folk lore get side tracked by reality. The 1903 was a rip off in design of a Mauser, so much so, that I believe it cost them $200,000 to the Germans when they were at war with them... Kinda forgot about that too. Maybe the next show will go with the 03 against the Mauser! Still funny though...

The .30-06 wasn't even the first US military issue smokeless cartridge. The .30-40 Krag was adopted in 1892.

One thing that the video doesn't mention is the Rube Goldberg rear sight of the M1903. The battle sight was fixed for 547 yards, requiring considerable hold-under at 100 yards. Meanwhile, flipping the sight up exposes a veritable slide rule.

The Enfield shooter was losing a lot of time lowering the butt of his rifle off his shoulder to cycle the bolt.

And what about the comment that ther Garand was in service for longer than any other rifle he could think of. What's up with that? The Lee Enfield served way longer than the M1, its not even close.

that just means he can't think of another one- in other words his experience is somewhat limited

Haha - I really could care less if it's a lot of flag waving - still good to watch.

Anyone else notice that at the 4:35 mark the enfield is missing its mag and at the 4:39 mark with the scene switch it has it again?

Looks to be a arsenal rebuilt M1903 MkI Springfield designed for the Pederson device. More pics of this piece would be nice to see.
Cheers

Aw damm, between your post & Alonzo's post, I'm going to have to watch it again....

An interesting little video. Id like to see a side by side of the M1 and an SVT. I have a feeling the SVT would take it...
