If one Springfield can't do it...

Hilarious!! However, I thought the 'proper' way to cycle a SMLE bolt was to twist the rifle to the side without unshouldering it? That would've made it almost twice as fast than that guy. They're both still pretty good shots!!

Lee-Metford went smokeless in 1892.
Austro-Hungarian Mannlicher went smokeless in 1890.
Italian Mannlicher-Carcano was NEVER BP: adopted 1891, mfd starting 1892
Russian Moisin-Nagant adopted 1891: smokeless
French Lebel: 1886: smokeless
German Kommissionsgewehr: 1888: smokeless
Belgian Mauser: smokeless: 1889
Canadian ROSS: smokeless: 1901

American .30 M-1906 wasn't even the first of the TWENTIETH Century!

"In war, Truth is the first casualty." GFM Helmuth von Moltke, 1914

I thought the war was over and it was okay to tell the truth.... a little bit, anyway.

Looks to be a arsenal rebuilt M1903 MkI Springfield designed for the Pederson device. More pics of this piece would be nice to see.
Cheers

It does appear to have the Pederson device ejection port cutout. Unfortunately, I don't have more pictures; it's just one I found on the Internet.

Actually Gunny said it was the first smokeless cartridge, which is kind of impossible since the 8mm Lebel was adopted in 1886.

Not even the first US servide cartridge designed for smokeless - that honor goes to the .30-03 ;)

the .30-40 Krag round was not designed for smokeless powder, but was adapted to it after entering service. The "40" in .30-40 referred to the volumetric grains of FFg black powder ;)

I love the 20 rds per min for the Lee Enfield, I recall that one could do twice that with aimed shots (What was that 50 ft? .

I know I did 54 rds in a mad min at Sharon a few years ago.

I love Gunny, but hate the up your arse attitude...

Pete

AFAIK, that honor of being the longest continuously serving rifle in the US military arsenal goes to the 03 Spingfield and NOT the Garand ... Still in the inventory for ceremonial duties...

And what about the comment that ther Garand was in service for longer than any other rifle he could think of. What's up with that? The Lee Enfield served way longer than the M1, its not even close.
