If someone wants to start a "new" .22lr shortage thread feel free.....

Am I understanding things right? Is the shortage coming to an end?

I have lots of .22 ammo in a few different flavours and I even managed to snarf some pistol powder last week. I got a five pounder and would have bought a second one but they had sold out the next day...

I don't believe its coming to an end. There is some ammo out there, but the prices are higher and are becoming the new "floor price". There is efforts being made by some retailers such as CT to bring other brands in, but its match level ammo that costs a premium. The .22lr hunters will get what they need, a couple boxes of HPs. The plinkers, more than likely buying by the brick, will continue to pay too much for the ammo.

I've been very lucky to come across 2 x boxes of 222 and 2 x boxes of 333, the last ones and bought it all... its like shopping at Winners (according to the commercials) go often and look what they brought-in..you might be lucky

I was surprised to see a shelf-full of Winchester special edition 500 rounds brick (wooden box), selling for $60 bucks a pop, selling in 2-3 days. I didnt buy that....

My local CT seems to get the thunderbolts often in large quantities, but at $44 a brick, its not cheap. Now they got some federal 325 rounds "target grade" for $28.99. I bought one to try it.

My local CT has the aguila, not cheap. Also Winchester "limited edition" or whatever in a 500 round box, 59.99.

They have had federal auto match at 28.99, and CCI mini mag Troy Landry 300 packs for 33 or 34 bucks. Both of those disappeared pretty much instantly (well, the CCI due to me.)

I've also seen some CCI kicking around gun shops lately, but no mini-mags. SV, green tag, shorts, shot shells, a bit of stingers. American eagle and Remington is all over the place, but way too expensive for what junk they are IMO. Winchester bulk is hit and miss.

I was just in the CT on Grandview here in Vancouver. Most 22 ammo I have seen in a long time. Sad to say, I don't even ask the price anymore. I checked my receipt 41.99 for 500 Dynapoint GT. Got to handle probably a dozen guns I had never touched before. No lineup, super-helpful guy who actually knew his guns as well. The more "gun stores" the better whatever the flavour.

Just bought 5k of .22LR in Ottawa.

Sail was out of .22LR.
LeBaron had Winchester Wildcat 40gr LRN below 6 cents/round (~$28.25 for 500) at LeBaron.
Sport Action has Federal AE 38gr copper plated HP (AE22) at 8,75 cents/round, Fed AE 40gr solid (AE5022) at 10 cents/round, and Game-Shok (710) 40gr solid for 14 cents/round.

I just picked up 2 bricks of Win T22 (Standard Velocity) 40gr @ LeBaron's Markham (~$38/brick)
Always wondered how SV .22lr shoots in my bolts……will finally find out.

I've been toying with the idea of a pistol chambered plinker... Having to search for bulk rimfire is a very powerful motivator.

Check the Beretta Cx4 thread, and there's surely threads about the JR carbine and the KelTec SU-2000 too on CGN.

One thing you HAVE to remember: unless you reload, you're plinking at $0.28-$0.32 per shot. Shoot 300 rounds, shell out $100. Shoot 300 rounds of .22, shell out just $30. :)

In my small town there has been a shortage. The LGS has high prices and so does CT but I scored some wildcats at Wally 15$ for a brick. Last box though someone bought 8 bricks befoer me. Im going to go back tommorow to see if the clerk was bring them out one at a time. :)
