eh maybe not.
This deer stands up out in the bog, it must have been there all along. I figure if the deer can get there I should be able to too. (not so much)
Anyway, as a bit of insurance, I wait until he stops before jumping in the water to cross the creek. and shoot him there.

Good thing I did When I attempted to walk out there, I couldn't get within 30 yards of him. It's a floating mash, and the further out i got the mushier it got until you couldn't tell when you were going to break through. all the bushes around are waving up and down with each of your steps, and water is welling up. I wonder how deep it is underneath?

So back to camp for the trappers punt I go.

Busting ice and pushing over four beaver dams, more poling than paddling it's 200 yards from the stand.
When I found him i could not stand beside him, so he came back with me guts in.

Then there was the 2nd deer.
Literally twice the size of the first fellow, and still an eight point.

Retrieval of this fine specimen was compounded by a slight ATV issue.

But a field fix with a ratchet strap and some fence wire, got me in to the deer and out to home.
That second deer has a 46" girth. Holy hell is he heavy.

ATV wheelies with deer dragging. Used winch 12 times before I got him to my little trailer I use to carry game behind it. Shot at 2:15, got to camp at 5:15.

The lone hunter strikes again!

Comparison of feet from the two deer.

That second deer, was shot from a forest stand. About a hundred yard shot, he took off like a rocket. I watch him run over the next ridge and hear him go on. WTF? It should have been a good shot. Damn!
So I wait a few minutes and wander down to see what the hell happened. I was checking the backs of trees looking for bullet holes, but saw none. When I got to his track i saw no blood. I followed it for a ways, and saw a red line on a broken off tree stump. Closer inspection showed this to be more than blood, it was lung tissue. How the hell did he run?
so onward I go, hard to track in dry leaves, but i had listened carefully when he ran away and had a good idea where he was headed. Over the ridge he goes, down the other side, and jumps a pile of dead trees and crap, almost, he died there. I pulled him out of there for the pic, and right then decided there was no way in hell he was getting out to the road in one piece without the atv. Temporary repairs or not. As I was contemplating the long walk back to camp to get my ATV, I hear the flutter of heavy wings. Raven inspecting the shot. I tagged him, gutted him, and pulled him away from the gut pile as far as I could manage. maybe 20 feet, damn he's heavy. Then I threw my inner coat over him in hopes that might stave off the ravens a bit. They'd likely go for the guts first anyway. When I returned, the ravens had not been there, and all is good.

BTW, he damned near got by me. Tricky bugger was walking real close to the beaver pond where the leaves are damp and they make less noise.

Those Ontario deer are a lot more reclusive than ours. BIL never ceases to be amazed at the number we see, just driving around. :)

Grizz

Big Bear?
Looks like you blew a ball joint?
Royal Distributing is your answer.
I just did this last year and found the ball joints aren't replaceable.
I had to replace the complete control arm.

Royal Distributing was about half what Yamaha wanted.
