If there is Ruger #1 Canadian, why not "Savage 24 Canadian"?

1/ But don't additional barrels require factory fitting if not purchased in one set?

It's a nice option I agree - that's another reason why I thought of Rossi since matched sets are not a foreign concept to them.

2/ Ruger looks and sounds nice, since there was a cooperation on #1 already. Do you think that project could be accomplished on shotgun action (even customized) or will require custom one?

1/ As far as the requirement for fitting is concerned, I couldn't really tell you. I would guess for the most part it depends on the manufacturing tolerances. Wheather all the possible barrel sets are enterchangeable or not, other than those I have, I can't really say. I was offered a set of 6x52R/12ga. that I 'tried' and they also fit without any difficulty.

2/ "Could it be accomplished on a shotgun action?" While I lack that technical expertise, with todays technology and metallurgy being what it is, I don't see why not. If it can be done on a very basic action by Savage with 30-30/12ga. or one by Brno in 7x57R/12ga, I'm sure Ruger could accomplish the task as well, in 303 Br./12ga.

I don't see the appeal of a special edition of a cheaply made gun like the Savage Model 24. That said, I think a Ruger Red Label with two two sets of barrels would be kind of neat: .303/.303 and 20ga/20ga. The rifle barrels could have the Ruger quarter rib to accommodate both a rear sight and dovetails for Ruger scope rings.

Sorry for misunderstanding: "Savage 24" was used as an example of currently (almost) vacant niche on the market - big game legal rifle / 12ga or 20ga shotgun combo in popular caliber (rimmed case). That did not necessarily mean 'cheap', but price below new European combos would be nice for sure.

I like an an idea of RL as a platform, but my pick would be combo 303/12.

Thanks.
I had same luck with IZH18 12Ga and "Remington" SPR18 .308WIN made a nice matching set, but on rifle receiver only, not other way around. But if you look up H&R / NEF offers they say that factory fitting for additional barrels is a must.

Searcy the double gun builder down in the States use to build a nice combo and over under rifle on Ruger Red Label shotguns, maybe Ruger would do a 303brit/20ga for us bush hunters who love picken up small game while hunting large game! John P I found that almost all BRNO rifle/ shotgun barrel sets will fit as long as they are the same series, as the tolerences are so precise on these, what is your experiance? cheers Dale Z

In post # 21, I suggested the manufactures tolerances may well be the key. The two sets I have and the one additional set I tried all fit well.

I have a Sav. 24 in 30/30 over 20 ga.

I asked a gunsmith if it would be possible to have the top barrel reamed out to .300 savage but he said he didn't figure the action of the 24 was strong enough.
You might be able to go 30/30 Improved.
