If Walter Mitty had only one 7.62x39 rifle , which one would it be?

I don't post much in the red rifle forums, having my many years of fun and fascination with the SKS long before this site was around.
I've got many thousand rounds of the good ol norinco 7.62x39 silver box still crated up from years ago and nothing to shoot it in.

so I want to get semi auto x39 and would like to hear from the experts who have been playing with the most currently available rifles.
I'm looking for rugged reliability, relative ease in maintenance, good aftermarket support and most of all accuracy.
I'm not really considering an SKS , or any other fixed/modified magazine type. I've looked at maybe an AR15 conversion but not convinced and is restricted, must be non restricted...... I'm looking for the Walter Mitty rifle of the semi auto 7.62 x 39 variety

anyone wanna throw some ideas and experiences on the table?
I don't really want to spend more than 2K and preferably much less.

the only 858 I've shot was when they first landed..... I didn't like it and it was no more accurate than my sks-d
hmmmmm
I've owned 2 mini 30's over the years and both were problematic and innacurate, I think I still have one in pieces in my gun room trunk LOL

I can 100% disagree with you on accuracy. Trust me on this
It is the only platform I know inside and out (other then valmets) and I can get way better accuracy then when I had sks's

Then the answer is to go restricted and get an AR in 7.62...

i started with the sks than go to the cz858 than finished with a xcr-l in 7.62x39mm , but the deal with the xcr-l was to get it at the 2014 price

go with a vz58 or xcr if you can

Just buy SKS that has chrommed bore and good crown at the muzzle end. Inaccuracy with sks stems from worn out non chrommed barrels that majority of refurbs have. What people expect a sniper rifle for 199.95 then when they shoot it and wonder why they can't hit anything.
Other option is to wait untill ak47 becomes unprohib.
Or if not mind broken bolts on CZ/VZ and lose bolts and such on xcrs and acrs that cost 3k shoud probably be the last option.

Don't know who or what a Walter Mitty is but my vote is the sks or vz 58. Maybe an xcr if you want to spend more to do the same thing either of the other two choices can do. Knowing your aptitude for tinkering Thomas buy an sks and refit it to your specs with trigger and sight upgrades from hical.
