If you could do it all over....

Not a (real) tree in sight yet there you are, dressed like you're out to murder a stand of Dour Fir! Probably wearing those Van Isle golfing boots too!

Nope,;) no Van Isle Pierre Paris golf boots, or west coast cashmere. Just the suspenders and the shortened red strap jeans from my steel spar logging days in the Gold River area. I plan to put on the golf boots this fall, chasing our monster Blacktail Deer in the timber. Gotta' try and bloody the M77 Ruger RSI in 7x57mm I've recently acquired.

Your mention of trees brings something else to mind. Shortly after I returned home after my 2nd Mule Deer hunt there

My Daughter picked up her first Moose on draw in that part of the country.

To me though, Moose, no trees, no swamp?? Doesn't 'fit'. That keeps up, I'll start believing in Santa and the Easter Bunny again.

I wish I never bought Norinco firearms, I wish I would of never installed NC star on top of that Norinco.

I wish I would of never bought Vortex scopes.

Now its quality over quantity

I only owned one hunting rifle for years a BSA 30 06 from my dad, when I gave it to my son I bought a Hawkeye in 30 06, a new rifle felt so good I then bought a 338 and a 7 08 both in Savage. All three are sold now I wish I hadn't bought the Hawkeye in 30 06 and I wish I hadn't bought a Savage at all.

Jealous of your stainless and walnut 7x57 international Johnn, dream rifle.

:)Thanks guy. I never realised a variation such as that even existed until I saw -Savage- had one and was thinking of selling it. I jumped on the opportunity to purchase it but ended up a close 2nd behind Hoytcanon. In discussions with Hoytcanon, he informed me if he found available another basically the same except blued, I'd get first dibs on the stainless. Lady luck smiled favourably:d. In mind for next season for Blacktail Deer here on the island, I had planned on using another recently acquired 7x57, a Zastava full wood/stock model. Here on the 'wet coast' the choice of the stainless seems a little more fitting and I'm:) looking forward to putting it to the task.

I got it right the first time. I have a Lee Enfield No.4Mk.2 in as issued condition. I put a no-drill scope mount on it and took my first deer with it. I have acquired other rifles since, but if I had to get rid of all but one, I'd keep this one as my only hunting rifle.

:) Brings back memories. Saved my paper route money and purchased something 'sort of' similar. A 'sporterized' example and fondly nicknamed my 'Simpon-Sears' special. Got my first Moose and first two Mule Deer with it.

My first centerfire was a sporterized No.1 mk3 and that rifle accounted for a few deer as well as numerous raccoons & such. The only things I'd change if I could do it all over is that I would have been a machinist rather than a fire fighter and would have the shop to build up more Lee Enfield based rifles. My collection is now just under 20 units and will shrink some more so as to add a nice BSA or Westley Richards .303 factory sporting rifle to the group.

Not into hunting big game anymore, mainly just fun shooting, pest removal and trap prize shoots.

A 358 that drives a 250 at 2700. No stupid shoulder. Good for deer without the hamburger, good for the grizzlies when they poke their nooses around. Good for the ears when they are still quite useful.

I was going to buy an xbolt in 2011, but a 308 wasn't in stock so I got a howa from a different store.
Howa(good rifle but not what I wanted) is gone, now I have an xbolt.

I shouldn't of bought a su16.
I shouldn't of traded the nice remington 7615p I had for a jr carbine which is now for sale.

I had a jw105(that blew up), savage axis, and a stevens 200 all in .223 before the savage 25 I have now that I'm very happy with.

The 3 SKS(chinese military, yugo, and another yugo) were pointless purchases leading up to me buying a much superior vz58

UPDATE:
I was given this a few days ago, by someone that just wanted to get rid of it.

It is VERY close, if not identical, to what I was getting at as my 'Simpon-Sears 'Special':).

That's just like my first one! I'm gonna check with the guy that had it last to see if he still has it. Me want back.

As it was given to me, I did give some consideration to keeping it, sort of as an indicator that;) I've come full circle in firearms.

However, I already have a mint 'Jungle Carbine' with trimmings so that's the 'one' I'll keep. In addition, there's a young guy locally that has expressed a real interest in the 'Simpon-Sears Special' so it'll likely go.

I started hunting with one of those Simpson Sears specials, You can't beat them for function and value.

As I made mention of previously, you & I both. And, if I remember correctly, the;)accepted 'medicine of the day' for Moose,;) Dominion 215gr were almost a must. Early to mid 60's, I believe ammo for the 303Br. was going for somewhere around $3.50/box. When I went to a Parker Hale in 308NM, $8.10/box was quite a shock:sok2.

I acquired a Parker Hale 303 sporter that the fella bought at Eatons for $39,95 and it was a very nicely finished gun with a beautiful checkered stock. If I could still use iron sights I'd probably still use that rifle today.
