If you could have a brand new Lee-Enfield, which would you chose?

Your choices are a No 1 Mk III or a No 4 Mk 1(* or not). Both would be new-in-grease. Why would you chose it from a technical standpoint?

I'd take a No 1. I like the nosecap with the dedicated bayonet lug (instead of going over the barrel). I think they look better too :)

A No.4 Mk1 T, all matching from Longbranch sounds really nice (for me to sell!), but my gut tells me otherwise. I'd love a nice 1911-1914 No1. MkIII, with all the bells and whistles: mag cut-off, volley sights, and bayonet.

Between the No 1 Mk III or a No 4 Mk 1 from a "technical" standpoint?

You gotta be kidding. I'd like to hear why some people think that the No 4 was a step back from the No 1.

1941Longbranch with all the early features ,or an all matching, mint, complete No4Mk1 T British made only because thats as close to an H + H rifle as I'm ever going to get .

#1, I already have a #4Mk1*Long Branch. It has been FTR'd, so some would say that makes it less desirable, but the new 5 groove barrel makes it a better shooter.

Depends where it comes from.

My grandfather said that when he first joined the British Army in WW2 all they had were No 1 Mk 3's and they worked perfectly and they could hit anything they wanted to. When they were issued No 4's in 1942, he said they were junk. they all had to be stipped down and 'made' to work. Not all of the parts worked well, and the 2 groove barrels were not the best thing in the world. He was happy that when he went to Italy he got a No 1 Mk 3 with the Grenade cup on it. The ones from Canada could have been better, but the ones in britian sucked.

In my personal opinion, I would have a nice early No 1 Mk 3 with all of the early bits and a nice Wartime scope on it.

Like someone said earlier in the post I would want a nice #1MkIII with all the early bells and whistles. The sights the mag cut-off etc.

I already have a #4 and a Lithgow #1, so that would be one that would add to my collection.
