If you could only have 1 handgun which would you choose and why?

Ruger P345, wait, maybe the Vaqueros, no, maybe one of the Webleys, not sure if it would be the Mk1,2,3,4,5, or 6's or the RIC, or the Metropolitan Police or the No5, or the WG or the No4, come to think if it, maybe one of the Hipower's Possibly the chinese contract, or possibly the Pizza Schofields.
Probably would dump the .380 revolvers. Not sure about the Colt New Service or the 1917 Smith. or the Kynoch or the Adams.
Guess I will never be able to decide :D

Count me for another vote for a single stack 1911A1 in .45ACP. I'd only need to add a .22 Conversion Unit and I'd be all set. ;)

ditto, single stack 1911..... good for hunting, good for sport shooting and lots of available ammo, especially with a .22 kit.

So much would depend upon why just one & how to be used. Otherwise it would be the S&W 686 much as I love my custom made 45s. Now if it was down to just one caliber & no reloading, for target only, then it woud be my S&W 617. Much as I like my High Standard Trophy & Victor.

If I could have only 1 handgun.....I would have to go with the Best!!!

Non other than the infamous Heckler & Koch MARK 23 USSOCOM .45 Auto with Streamlight L.A.M (Laser Aiming Moduel) and sound suppressor manufactured by Knights Armament Corporation.

Nothing....and I mean NOTHING!!! can touch this high-end weapon system.

LMAO you're kidding right? Come on, it is neat looking but its almost the same size as an MP5K, and no one uses them.

I don't understand how some people see the revolver as simplier and more reliable than a good auto?? They have more parts and require tuning. I'll admit, a nice S&W 686 does grab my attention.

Hmm.... either a 686 (6in) or a 1911 (45acp) or a Glock G17.

686 - ammo versatility and availability
1911 - parts and ammo availability
G17 - ammo availability, lightweight, could go a loooong time without cleaning

Interesting comments from all around. If I were to only be allowed one handgun ever, I'd put it through the types of situations I might want to use it for. For those who only would consider using against paper targets, I suppose it would really matter.

I'd consider for which ever countries I'd possibly live in, self-defense, home security, availability of parts/mags/ammo/etc, reliability and all sorts.

In this consideration, I'd find myself more inclined towards the military, combat style of handgun. A 1911 in 45acp would suit to the task, popular, secure for just about any purpose, easy to find parts and ammo. A SIG P22x (say 220 in 45acp or 226 in 9mm) would be a more modern, expensiver way for a reliable gun. Glock 17(and I'm not even a fan) would but a popular root to go. HK USP would be similar for a hard using combat gun.

Hard to say really, so just about any service pistol would do it for me...provided I wouldn't spend more time cleaning it than carrying it and wouldn't get a caliber like 40S&W or worse 10mm(as good as they'd be, I wouldn't want to try to find ammo if I were in say Cape Town or god forbidd Mogadishu).

Oh and I suppose I would want something extremely tough and heavy along with the mags. In desperate situations, I'd probably consider using the grip as a hammer(!) or throwing it like a boomerang(haha)

Without a doubt the 1911 is the finest fighting handgun available, and there is alot to be said for a good DA .357 as a great all around handgun. However given my life style and location, if I could only have one, it would be my old 3-screw 45/8 Ruger Super Blackhawk.

haven't seen it so i will add it springfield xd-9 5" inch tactical i love this gun
