As the title implies, if you could only have one rifle for all of your hunting requirements what would that one rifle be? My choice would be my M 70 chambered in .375 H & H topped with a Leupold VX III 1.5 - 6X with Leupold QD rings. You could hunt any game animal in the World with this from coyotes to elephants IMO.

My No 5 MK 1 Jungle Carbine in 303 Brit. Topped with a scout mounted scope. If possible a 3-9 x if not then a 4x.

Weatherby MK 5 Deluxe in 30/06 with a Leupold 4.5X14.
Ammo available to take everything from varmints(110gr.) to big bears(220gr.)
And any place that stocks ammo will have "something" in 30/06.

a pre 64 model 70 westerner in 264 win mag with a real good luppy in a 3 x 9 .works for every thing from yotes to deer moose and elk .all around just perfect for my little world Dutch

My one rifle...after a Gizz took a Moose on me....was very similar....a M700 375 Rum. Since it is a reloader only caliber...or 3-4/shot...that would be my choice.

Certainly overkill for a lot of things. But hey dead or REALLY Dead. One shot. Mice to Moose...or even Cape buf and elephant with the right projectile and situation. I think one could load up some solids and use it for Coyotes....adequate power ....barely....and with non expanding solids/missing major bones, i dont think or care if the pelts get ruined.

Yeah, I guess you could hunt coyotes all right with a .375 but ya better not be wanting to save the pelts, lol!

Shot one with a 9.3mm a few weeks ago, and pelt damage wasn't that bad... calibre size entrance and calibre size exit. Coyotes don't offer enough resistance for the bullet to expand much.

Since I'm not likely to ever hunt bison or the big brown bears, I think I could do quite nicely with a 7x57. In fact I have a custom project in the works in that calibre that will be my one-rifle-for-everything if it ever gets completed.

If we had to use one rifle that we already own, I think I would stick with my old .32 Special. Chances of me having to shoot an elephant, cape buffalo, or any other critter bigger than a whitetail, mule deer, or perhaps a moose or elk are slim to none.

If I really had to use just one, I would be better to go with a .303 or, 30-06, or 30-30, as ammo would be more easily obtained.

It would have to be a drilling so I have everything covered with the 3 calibers. This is common in europe where you have these types of limitations

1 rifle to rule them all? 458 wm. 45/70 would do it but someday I'd like to hunt elephant
Some may scuff at a big bore but with cast bullets its quite tame and very capable for small game. 300 gr hp for deer and varmints. 350 gr A frame or partition will handle any and all north American game. 450-500 gr for the big Boyz of the tall grass

22" barrel walnut stocked Mauser with irons and a 4x32 high quality scope in quick detach mounts
