If you could only have one

I'd have to go with my mauser action 7x57. It'll do pretty much anything I'll ever need it to, though I don't think it's the best moose rifle in the world (that's what 9.3's are made for) and I'll still be able to carry and shoot it when I'm old and brittle.

Like everybody else around here I have way more than I actually need, but the wants always excell the needs.
But if I had to whittle it down to one it would be my M-70 super grade in 30-06. I've had a M-70 for years in 30-06 and it has always done everything asked of it. Then again my hunting world only exists in Canada.

Rifle #### - evil evil man, #2 & #3 are sweet !

Weatherby Mark V chambered for the 300 Weatherby.........the one on the top.

Not a fair or realistic question - BUT, if it was JUST one rifle;

My 'one gun to do it all' would be my Ruger M77 Gunsight Scout in .308 Winchester.

It ain't exceptional at any one thing- but it does everything well (even shoots chickens with a Hammond game getter or light loaded pellets)

I assume you are asking for the "You have to leave and only pack one gun case" type of scenario. The answer to a question like "You are only allowed by the government to own one" would get a string of fight'n words I would be banned for posting here.

Anyways, back to the OP's question...

Does a lower count?

I'd pick an AR lower with as many uppers in various calibres possible to put on it. The adaptability and range of use is just great. Five uppers with the one lower would be perfect: a target and gopher .22LR, a short 5.56, a DMR style 5.56, a short brush hunting dedicated 300 Blackout and a deer hunting dedicated 7.62 x 39 (assuming they all fit on one lower, I forget about 7.62 x 39 on a .223 lower: brain fart).

Well the government only allowing you to own 1 is for sure a hot topic that I think most of us would get booted. As I mentioned in an earlier post this was a topic of debate among friends around a campfire so I thought I'd throw it out there to see popular opinion. There is no right or wrong answer IMHO but it's great to hear the opinions and love some of the pics being put up.

for me one calbre would be either the 338 06 or 338wm. probably my 338 06 lightweight rem as it can do anything in north america that needs doing.i tend not to shoot over 250 yrds or less so it would be good for yotes to moose.

For the type of hunting I do, I,would hve to go with a BLR, but probably re-barreled with a premium aftermarket barrel in 7-08, with a rail and an RDS in a quick release mount, and a secondary leupold vx3 2.5-8 in QR mounts. I could also deal with the same in 7mag, but my preference is a 22 inch barrel, as I am in the bush a lot, so the 7-08 would be best. For me in Ontario, this would be the best option.

One gun?

If I could really, really only have one gun???. Perish the thought, but I guess it would be one of my Mauser 98 actioned sporters or Winchester CRF model 70.

Calibre would be .338 Win Mag, it will do everything I hunt or ever anticipate hunting. The rifle would be a custom built Mauser 98 in a wood stock. No stainless and plastic for me, especially if it is the only hunting rifle I can have.

Sauer S202 Elegance in 30-06 in a fitted case with something zeiss/swaro/s&b on top... assuming its one do all rifle. Maybe a M70 supergrade in 338 win mag would be nice.

A coin toss between my custom Mauser 98 lightweight sporter in 7x57 and my Sako Bavarian Carbine in 30-06. The custom Mauser is particularly special as it sports the real deal: a small-ring FN commercial action, a DWM barrel and beautiful Brno 21H wood and lower metal. It points, aims, feeds, and shoots with perfection.
