If you could only own ONE bolt action rifle ? ... not a troll thread

Pedersoli trade musket, flint, .62 cal or 20 gauge depending whether you are loading shot or ball, good for birds on the wing or big game out to 50 or so yards. Non restricted , no PAL , no papertrail.

It may sound stupid given all the great choices out there, but if I had to pick one gun, in an "end times" scenario (yes I know this is a bit OT) I would pick a sporterized .303 Lee Enfield. It'll knock down anything in NA, simple mechanically, lots of spare parts, brass will reload quite a few times and just generally tough as nails.

Now more on topic, if I were to pick a rifle to take to the grave in our current low stress environment it would either be a Winchester M70 in .308 or a Remington M700 in the same caliber. Stainless barrels, McMillan or B&C stock, 3x9 Leo scope plus iron sights just in case the scope gives up the ghost. I'd hang a bipod off the stock as well. Not ###y but gets the job done.

Interesting choice, given the original question. Personally, I prefer the semi-auto flintlocks...:)

It would have to be my Ruger Alaskan in .375 Ruger. It entered the top of his spine (right where the muzzle is resting on the bear) and exited his gut. It was a shot I took quickly as he was trotting my way. He dropped like a sack of shyt. I find you can't OVERKILL anything, but you sure can underkill. The rest of my rifles are currently collecting dust. Hard to go back when you get that feeling that you have , in your hands, more power than you need for ANYTHING that walks. Period.

I already own it: the last rifle I'd give up would be my Lee Enfield No.4 Mk.2 which has the full stock and some sentimental significance. Of course there are many guns "better" in one way or another but this one will do everything I need and want it to do well enough.

Only one BOLT ACTION rifle ? Easy.

Like TheTooner just wrote : Lee-Enfield No.4 MK 2 rifle. Anytime, anywhere. One of the smoothest bolt action ever made, very rugged and very tough, parts still available, strong enough - and precise enough, for me.

For how many years did the Rangers use that very rifle - in places and conditions that would have broken just about any sporting bolt action rifle (not a sporterized military bolt action rifle) to pieces ?

I'm a senior, will only hunt locally for the rest of my life. Cooper Model 54 308 Win. Talley lows, S and B 2 1/2 X 10 Klassic. And there would be tears running down my cheeks, as I was making the decision.

Only one...Geeezzz Ok well in that case I would keep a Ruger M77 Ultra Light in 308 Win, preferably with a tang safety but if not then the Mrk2 action. Put a Leupold 1.75 x 5 or a straight simple 4X on it and done.

I love Winnies... so I've got a SA Push feed Post 64 as my .260 LR rig; Remmy rifles follow me home, so they end up being my go to varmint rig(s). For moose - deer rifle season and my truck ; a Ruger 6830. It's a Gunsite Scout composite in .308 and I had to have it.... just one gun! :)

ha ha ha ha It's my grab and run rifle!

Cheers,
Barney
