If you don't already own one...

Just as a suggestion but I would recommend keeping a copy of what is written below with your short dominion arms shotguns. I went through all kinds of embarrassing antics with the police over my dominion arms back packer. At first they told me it was prohibited etc and that I sawed it off. I had showed them the NON RESTRICTED marking on the barrel and had paperwork indicating it was not restricted. I even got in the local news paper over the whole thing. At the end of it all I got to keep my gun (obviously since it is legal). At the end of the whole thing 8 police officers and 1 conservation officer all believed it was illegal. I had to explain to them how it wasn't. Having what is written below with the gun at the time would have made things so much easier.

"(b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,
(i) is less than 660 mm in length, or
(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length"

I worry that the letter from CFC seems to cover only the definition of 'restricted firearm' ("a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise"), and not the definition of 'prohibited firearm' ("a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted... is less than 660 mm in length"). The major problem, of course, is that the police we are likely to encounter may not have much understanding of the nuances of the law or previous CFC advice. Frustrating to not have more clarity in the descriptions - if the ambition is to ban short or conceable shotguns, why not just say so? I suppose that, given the potential consequences of conviction, though, the vagueness works to the advantage of those who favour prohibition, as owners self-regulate more than the law requires to be certain.

All that hassle over a DA Backpacker? Damn. Some cops just have it out for us law abiding firearm owners.

You have to also realize that police don't know the firearm laws at all. They only read out of a pamphlet that is given to them to have in the car. There are so many laws that they have to know that the firearms laws aren't that important to them.

In a way, the Norinco HP-9, DA Backpacker/Outlaw/Grizzlies are actually good for us politically, since it shows how ridiculous the gun registry and firearms act are.

If LEO's believe these guns to be prohibited, but in fact the CFC deems them to be non-restricted, that creates a conflict between the two governing bodies, one that we can exploit.

After all, you need an ATT, RPAL, trigger lock, and locked container for an unloaded restricted - but you can bomb around town all you want with any of these shotguns, pardon the pun, riding shotgun with you.
