If you had only 3 hunting firearms......

I'm with sako6br, except I'll add names/models:
A 22LR - Ruger 10/22 - inexpensive, reliable, relative accurate, more available after market upgrades than the average buyer will ever use
A 12 ga shotgun - I favor the Rem 870 for reliability, durability, versatility (use for deer in shotgun only areas). If price is an issue, choose a plain jane rather than a Wingmaster.
A .308 bolt action- I favor the Tikka t3- relatively inexpensive, proven accuracy, nice smooth action, light, easy to carry - in stainless and synthetic it'll hold up in wet weather and through a good bit of bushwhacking...

Whether you stay where you are, or take a trip out west to the wide open spaces, with these three you'll be equipped to hunt whatever you choose...gophers to moose, pheasants to geese, and everything in between.

1..Winchester model 70 in 30-06.
2..mossberg pump in 12 guage
3..Knight muzzleloader inline in .50 cal

This all I own. Altho I've had dozens of rifles in my lifetime.

if you dont wanna break the bank.

-cooey 64b semi 22lr. got one for $60. and can break a match stick at 25 yds

-shotgun mossberg 535 handles better than an 870 and takes 3.5 shells for $340. and quality is great. fired shells through till i couldn't see front sight from heat coming of barrel and no failures

-a 30-30 is a good start but they are heavy with a full mag,
bullets will deform after loading them several times a day when you get into and out of a vehicle, and no practical choice for optics with top eject. and innacuracy due to short sight radius. grab a tikka in 7-08 or 308 - silky smooth

Get the Win94 since you like it for a carbine
An Ithaca 37 featherlight would be a nice upland gun for a lefty
.22 could be a lever Winchester, Marlin,Browning or Henry
Browning SA would be a good semi auto for a lefty.

I could blast off which three that I would want, but that woulden't serve you too well. If you like the Win 94, that is the gun that you'll be happy with........buy it. You already mentioned that you wanted a 10/22; buy that as well. for the shotgun, look at REMington or Mossberg, recent Winchester shotguns have had serious reliability problems; i.e. jamming.
Mike

1) Decent bolt -action .22lr

2) A 6x45 built on a CZ 527 action (for varminting and its deer capable, second choice would be a .22-250)

3) A good quality combo or drilling in 12ga and .30-06. Shot barrels proofed for steel.

I only owned three guns for the longest time, they were....

Browning A bolt 30.06
Browning pump shotgun 12 ga
Winchester 9422 in .22mag

It was all that I needed.

Two guns that always go to more than any others are my 1953 Husquvarna 270 and an 870 Express 12 gauge shotgun.
