If you had to choose

If you had to choose one calibre to hunt with what would it be and why? Not sure if this thread was already posted sorry if it was. Just curious, mine would be .270 I find it versatile and a good choice of bullet weights for different north American animals

As much as I love 7x57 and 6.5x55, in the end, nothing is more versatile than 30-06. It can do it all, and it does it all very well. From 150 to 220 grain bullets in all configurations, there isn't anything walking in North America it can't drop with a well placed shot. It's a proven battle calibre and doesn't have anything to prove to anyone.

For me, I think I'd go with my 9.3x64mm Brenneke. Loaded down with cast bullets, it'll take a deer without tearing it up too badly, and loaded to the nuts with a proper bullet, it's perfect for moose, elk, or even most beasts in Africa. Plus I get the funniest looks at the range when I tell people what I'm shooting.

The Caliber 30 of 1906,......110gr to 220gr,..varmints to Grizzlys...ammo available everywhere that sells ammo,...some may argue but it is the most versatile round ever made,...and I bet it wins this poll.

For some reason i have to sell all my guns and keep one for hunting, it would be in 300wm. It does everthing the 06 does but gets it done faster.

In the backward province I live in, I'd have to choose between a .223 Remington with 1-8 twist or .22-250 with a 1-10. Can't carry anything bigger outside of big game season, but they'll get the job done with careful consideration to bullet selection and placement.
For anything in Canada that needs doing, it is really hard to find fault with a .30-06, if I had to pick one bullet it would probably be a 200 grain partition, shoots reasonably flat but should penetrate any of the largest critters we can pursue.
