If you were hoping for a Cabela's Dickinson SxS...

In Canada the low end shotgun is king for 99%of the smooth bore shooters spending more than $500-$600 on any shotgun seems to be the norm . It's just the way it is shotguns seem to be put in the utility class and not respected as a work of art &craftsmanship . Now smooth bores like the skb & other import sxs's are regarded as upper end guns but in the 70'&80's when they entered Canada they sold for 179-279 $ depending on the model. I only own 1 sxs Love every thing about them unfortunately I can't shoot them well I have tried many I love vintage shotguns so I settled on a 1953 win model 21 12 ga can't hitachi with it but I look good carrying it around. On the other side of the coin I can hold my own with win model 12's funny how that works . Lots of nice vintage shoguns out there A'5, Parker's to many to mention . Just find what works for u and enjoy .

Struff, I couldn't agree more in your assessment of the market. It's not just a smaller market than the US, there is a different mindset. That's why, I believe, that taking into account foreign exchange, prices for older SxS here are significantly lower than in the US, on average.

I don't think that reality has quite sunk in at Cabelas Canada, if their Gun Library is any indication.

I haven't checked it out yet although given what I have heard about the US Gun Libraries, it may not ever. LOL

Actually, that's not fair. What I have heard about the US Cabelas Gun Libraries is that market value has little to do with their pricing. Could be high, could be low. No Rhyme or reason. But the occasional; great deal to be had.

Speaking of high end....just watching the last few minutes on Gunbroker of a high end gun auction. 1921 Fox XE 20 gauge. Auction was scheduled to end ay 9:00 am this morning. In the last few minutes high bid has jumped $4000 and is sitting at $22,000. Now that's higher end.

I was gonna bid on it but figured it would look out of place amongst my high end guns!! (LOL)
But as already mentioned, some great deals can be had in this country on vintage doubles, especially if they need some restoration (Hmmmm).
