hi guys, a late night question here, killing time til im tired ;)

Just say.... You owned a .270 Winchester and a 35 Whelen and due to sentimental values you couldnt pass up either, But more Recently you purchased a 300WSM......

Which you are unsure about an could see it sold off...

What would you replace it with, to do your Deer (Elk) hunting with???

Dump the .300 WSM is you're not confident that its something you need. A .270 shoots just as flat and a .35 Whelen hits harder. I agree with Doug, a .300 Winchester is a better choice for the handloader then the WSM.

Thanks for the replies!

Of course I have my own ways to think, i just thought it would be a good discussion an also could give me more idea!

I'm thinkin along the lines of whats been said already!!!

Why do you want to get rid of the .300 WSM? Is it just that you don't like that rifle, or have you abandonned the .30 cal slot? If you want a replacement .30, the .300 Win is the easy choice.

On the other hand, with the .270 and .35 Whelen you have a good "Light" and a decent "Medium". You could fill the "Heavy" shot with something over ..40, and really cover the field. Easy choices for the heavy would be the .458 Win or Lott.

The 300WSM is a great cartridge, easy to handload, and will do most anything you need to do with a .30 caliber cartridge. The .270 and 35 cover quite a bit of ground. You ont' need another rifle, but if you just wanted one, nothing wrong with adding a .223 to your line up.

With a .270 and a .35 Whelan, any manner of .30 cal is kind of redundant, isn't it, magnum or not?

I would tend to go much smaller, .223 or .22/250, or much larger, .375 H&H and up.

Hey guys ive left out the little calibres i have just because i wanted to sus you guys about the 270-300-35 .

i actually also own an air rifle, 22 magnum,22 hornet, 222rem, 270,300wsm,35w,375win, 310 cadet an a 410 an a 12g shotgun!

my bases are covered well an truely in the small game respect :)

few of you may remember i ask a few Qs about the WSM an different weight ammo an all sorts of Qs, I bought the Abolt while it was on special, an went for a 300WSM because i thought i wanted to long range shoot with it.... turns out its too light for me to accuratly shoot longer distances due to recoil, a kikeez pad was attatched an 150gr SP used(down from 180gr) and thats currently where im sitting.

i advertised the wsm for yonks but no takers an all of a sudden i might have a buyer, if i decide to sell..

Its not needed, but its a handy rifle ..
