If you were to purchase 4 single-shot rifles, what calibres would you choose?

Has to be single-shot? In that case I'd only bother with 2: 22lr and 45-70. There's nothing I hunt that can't be harvested with either of those, and both are perfect for target shooting .

In 2021 I selected the following:
22 Hornet
7x57
8x57
45-70

It's almost 2024, and my list has slightly "evolved":
7.62x39 (small to medium)
243 (medium)
8x57 (large)
45-70 (A to Z)

7x57 is now my do-it all cartridge (mostly a reloading affair), as well as 308 (commonly available ammo)--If I was limited to one or two.

Given a .22 LR and a 12 gauge already;

.223 Rem in semi varmint weight
.308 Win with a match barrel
.30-06 SPRG hunting weight standard sporter barrel
.375 H&H hunting weight sporter barrel

What I have
NIB-Cooey 39
Sav 219 25/20
Sabatti 7x57R
Farmindale 45/120

And Ruger #3’s .44mag .375wcf,
2-T/C Encore frames-.204, 22/250, 25/06, 270, 7-08.

Could find room for more European makes/calibers.

After looking at what I have, it is still hard to eliminate any.
Martini 303 & 577/450: Rem roller in 50-70: Sharps in 50-90: Browning 78 17 Rem,22-250: Ruger #3 22 hornet, 223, 45-70: Ruger #1 22 hornet: custom RKS falling block in 38-55: Ballard 40-85.
Ones I enjoy and use most are 22 hornet, 17 Rem, 45-70, and the 50-90. The end use ( target, big game, varmint, BPCR) defines what cal and rifle. I have had and sold many but still look at singles with enjoyment.
