Ignorant''purists''

I've still got the Bubba'd Winchester-Lee; still looking for a bolt,LOL.
Normally Bubba'd milsurp's don't bother me...but that one does. So rare and yet still it got the saw, wow!
What a shame!

"...wasn't ASKING his OPINION..." Yes you were. You asked his opinion about its value. There is no hard and fast value for any milsurp. A dealer can't look up the current wholesale value so any value he puts on it is an opinion.

no I didn't ask his opinion-I said I had a fine old K11 that I wanted to shoot-and I got it for $100 including a set of dies because it was already D&T.

now I have to find a nice load for it,cause I plan to shoot it...I have to find a small scope that will fit the rail [ only 3'' long'' and 3/8ths]-or maybe find a ''ghost ring'' rear sight, not sure which way to go now-but drilling another hole won't do any more damage than has already been done.

What it boils down to is you have collectors and shooters with variations in between.

Is a person a ignorant bubba if they apply BLO (boiled linseed oil) to a Enfield rifle when the military stock only had "RAW" linseed oil applied to it.

Is a person a ignorant bubba if the American NRA taught him how to be a bubba before the invention of the Internet or Kennedy was President.

I like ignorant people who work in sporting good stores (Gander Mountain) I sold off some of my milsurp rifle collection and got top price. I received far more than what I paid for them and more than they were worth because the ignorant sales associate didn't know anything about milsurps and two hours before this he was selling shoes.

Now stop crying and go back to the store and ask to see the "experts" milsurp collection and see if he is a fake who just listens to other people talk.(and remember, the "customer" is always right) ;)

Question: Is a 1976 Schwinn Bicycle that has been converted to jet powder Bubba'd?

I purchased a D&T No.5 so I could enjoy tinkering on my rifle without the question of defacing a war relic of issue condition.

My rifle, sometime in its history had the markings scrubbed a bit, reblued, and the stock refinished very well. I suspect some factory or production shop effort.

It is a complete BSA with matching numbers except the magazine and is an original No.5, no fake. I'll plug the scope holes and keep it original to the eye but will be free to tinker with bedding and such as an amateur, maybe an after market trigger.

I'm no purist and find that some purist are often driven by money. Everyone seems to think Grandpas rusty, shotout SMLE that got laughed at for 75 years is now a national treasure. There are very few museum quality collectables left and everything else is a very clean to junk shooter in my book.

There is one SMLE in the world collectable to me and it belonged to my Uncle. If it ever ends up in my hands it will be restored front to rear with the utmost respect to its history and the history of a fine man. Call me Bubba all you want.

P.S. I call mine a Jungle Carbine too!

Ed thats not jet powered at the most it's a JATO.

To those who look down their nose at ''altered'' milsurps-I suggest there is not a lot of diference between''sporterizing'' a milsurp and making a hot rod out of an old car or even restoring them to stock.I happen to like 47 chev pickups-but a lot of them have been restored, repainted and converted to 12 volt systems and upgraded brakes.Does that warrent making disparaging comments about someone who does?

Or consider old furniture-I like taking an old piece, regluing the joints if neccesary, sanding and stripping the old warn finish back to the wood, then restoring it back to something like it once looked like-simply because I like it,even though it imay be worth more left untouched.Other guys ''desporterize'' old milsurps and put new wood on them-and while they have no collector value-they look very nice.Frankly,I don't see much diferent in milsurps-to each their own and one isn't any more ''right'' that the other
