In the past, I have made some remarks against the mauser 98 action. While I still don't like ####-on-open, I've come to see the merits of the action after purchasing a CZ550 in .375 H&H. It is by far the smoothest feeding firearm I have. Just need to get out and shoot the damn thing now...

Foxer...you're forgetting that I have a 700...I still don't like remington!

Good gawd man! What's not to like about a Remington 700.... and fer dern sakes don't let Bartell hear you spoutin' off that blashemy!

Mile "0" ??? .... thought that be on the right coast laddie ! ( Terry Fox thought so too ! )

Dustin : Wait till you get the opportunity to fondle a new Square Bridge Magnum Mauser '98 out of Isny !

(The one I played with was "Some nice piece of work" in 375 H & H, but mind you at about 10k, it should be ! )

I personalyl don't understand how more people don't "get it" that the M98 action (including it's modern iterations such as the winchester model 70) is arguable the best hunting rifle action ever devised... but oh well. I know what I like, at least.

You just gotta love the way those long tapered 375's feed, like glass!

I got started hunting with an origonal 1950 mauser, it was a brute for a skrawny kid to pack around all day but after having that one and my old 1950 Husky High power, let's just say there's no turning back for this cowboy.:)

Was looking at a genuine Holland&Holland at he show last weekend, she was a beauty but the stock had been replaced with a more American styled stock.:( Express sites, spare front site in the flip oopen grip cap, the whole nine yards. Just as well, I don't have an extra $3300 to drop on one anyway.
:( :( :(

Thats good to here Dustin:)...I also just recently purchased a CZ550 375H&H:). With a tip from A-Zone...thanks man!

Should have her by the end of this week!!:D

I can't say I ever slagged them but I did have a low opinion of the Mauser 98's for a long time. Just because they seemed heavy and slow to me.
I bought a Custom Interarms Mark-X in .338 last year... and once I figured out how to load a hinged floor plate I was hooked.:p
The last time I had it out I watched my partner cycle four 225 grain Federal factory loads in under 4 seconds without taking it from his shoulder. All 4 ring hits at 50 yards too.
It was very impressive, he can cycle that heavy Mauser action just as fast as a Tikka T-3.
I would have to agree... definitely a best of breed award to the Mauser 98!:)

Of the last four rifles, three have been various M-98 mausers.A P-14 sneaked in. They are not without their faults, the receiver is a bit flexable and the recoil lug needs a crossbolt.

I think that Mausers when used with the cal they are originally chambered for present no problems.
It's when people start arsing about and expect a K98 or '09 to be up to super sonic pressures that things begin to go a little pear shaped.
Undoubtly a master work design.

Actually, if you glass bed the stock and stck to non-magnum rounds, you don't need a crossbolt at all. The receiver's are flexible by Remington 700 standards, but you won't notice the difference unless you are 1000 yard bench shooting. Also, the commercial actions without the thumb cut flex MUCH less.

I like them. Great platform for 7x57 or the .35 Whelen :)
