Illuminated reticles on Viper PST FFP?

I was just wondering what happens when your battery dies with an illuminated reticle, namly is there any reticle at all or does it then just look like a normal non illuminated reticle?

I found the battery life on the Vortex's to be pitiful. Like TERRIBLE. I had batteries die within 2 weeks, with ZERO use. This was in two separate scopes.....

It's a common problem for PST's to drain power even when turned off. Vortex will cover it under warranty.
