ill have to look, theres a dealer in winnipeg that has a few sitting there i was goin to stop in and see what there worth?

If you're looking at the 2 or 3 at the dealer on Route 90, they are in rough shape and rotting fast. I live just down the road and drive past them every day. Too many Manitoba summers and winters have taken a toll. When I first started looking early last year, I gave him a ring; he was asking $5k and up. And that was for the truck as is. I paid less than $5k for mine, which was in far better condition than those on Route 90 (and then put another $1500 in parts and labour into it to meet inspection). All to say, tread carefully if you're considering those. And don't expect too many deals.

There's also a shop on Berry (or is it Ferry) that has 2 or 3 for sale. He's asking top dollar and isn't a man that likes to deal, but his trucks are well restored and need nothing. I've bought parts from him in the past. Don't #### around and pay cash has worked well for me.

As others have mentioned, kijiji is a good place to watch. That’s how I found mine. It's slow in Manitoba at the moment but some might pop up in the spring. If you get one, you probably won't regret it. Until you have to fix it (again). ;)

That has got to be one of the nicest Iltis' I have ever seen! If I didn't already have one I'd be putting in a serious offer on yours ; )

Thanks!

I have a new set of tire chains I carry but have never used, my ILTIS came with 5 brand new Michelin XZL Tires

yeah the ones on route 90 ive seen them sitting there, i dunno they seem nice, but not worth 5k to me lol, i can build one hell of a mudding truck for 5 k

I've owned mine (CFR 86419) since April 2012 and love it, especially with the tarp off in the summer. Nothing better than taking the kids for a ride on a warm evening. It spent its entire life in Manitoba, starting with 2PPCLI in 1985 and surplussed out from CFB Winnipeg in 2005. I'll dig up some photos and post them later.

The truck came to me with 2 uni-directional Michelins up front, 2 omni-directional Michelins on the back and an omni spare. But they'd seen better days so I swapped them for a set of slightly used Uniroyal Laredo HD/Ts (225/75R16). They're a bit noisy but the ride is good and I don't get rubbing unless I really crank the turn.

The person that finds a reliable source for 6.5R16 tires will make Iltis owners very happy. I kept the old tires in case I want to do an authentic 'dress up' or a parade, but long-term and highway driving on that old rubber was asking for trouble, IMO.

Contact nonsponsor Surplus PREFAIR in Beloeuil (sp) Quebec. The owner used to own SAIL, and he has lots and lots of ILTIS parts. He might have tires. If you telephone them, use your best English and politest French. These guys buy and sell all the time, but their English is not the best.

As promised, some pics. No real action shots, just me and my little green truck:

The rainy day I brought it home last April, though I had to stop by work to show the guys first. I was smiling pretty big here...until I got the repair bill to bring it up to inspection standard! Deep breath, paid the man, went back to smiling. :D

A few pics from early summer. Among other things, one of my winter projects is getting the all the doors repaired (restitching, replacing the windows, patching holes, etc). I replaced the rear left OD door with one in dark green that's in near-100% condition. The standard MB plate is gone and it's sporting my Winnipeg Blue Bombers plate. The Michelins are now off (except an omni as the spare) and the Uniroyals are now on:

This was taken early summer at work. I use the truck as a daily driver whenever possible. Sometimes it's too cool to take the top off but too warm to have doors. This is the ideal solution:

The way an Iltis should be dressed (tarp rolled up and strapped in the back). Mid-summer, a dandy way to cruise the streets:

Some of the best Ilti I have seen came from Quebec. Many restored to near mint shape. On Kijiji, search for Iltis in Quebec and you should see some nice examples. Also look for a tailgate model. Very handy to have, and more rare.

I have one of the Ambulance variants and I have been told that they are one of the better ones to get. They were never abused on excercise (normally sat in a field as the amblances of today do while on ex). They were always well maintained, wouldn't want the ambulance to break down, now would we (I have also never had any major issue with mine in 3 years (no real issues at all really), and the floors are as solid as they ever were.
The one drawback to the ambulance is that the spare and the jerry can are mounted on the sides, instead of the rear. Not normally an issue, until you get onto the trails and have to worry about clipping the tire or jerry can on trees lol
I'm currently in the process of relocating the mounts to the rear, for a more slim and streamlined (traditional) look ; )
Mine's the one on the left.

Nice Iltis! I've heard of guys finding a good textiles places that can repair and even make new doors and tarp, as long as you have the old one to use as a template. Glad to hear you use it as a daily driver. I try to do the same. You know what they say, Use it or Lose it!

The other place is Shaw's Auto on Berry. He's got one for sale with a trailer, completely restored, and wants around $9k.

Wait for spring then keep an eye on kijiji for MB, SK and ON. You might luck into a good deal that makes it worthwhile to grab a truck and trailer and bring it in. I can also hook you up with a shop that can do the inspection (most places won't touch the Iltis because they know nothing about it); this place has ex-CF Veh Techs working in it so you'll get a fair shake.

My fondest memories of driving the Iltis include the following:
1) Having to manually readjust the side mirrors everytime you opened the door because the door whacked them out. Particularly annoying on the passenger side! A constant annoyance.
2) Triangular door windows that opened on the bottom. I always thought they should open from top so you can more easily adjust your side mirror when it got whacked out of adjustment by the door!
3) I remember the doors constantly flying open when driving on rough ground.
4) Losing all side and rear visibility through the plastic windows when the constantly fogged up in winter.
5) Being very jelous of the French soldiers driving around in their Panhard VBL's!

Ah the memories...

Wow, those doors and tarp look brand new from the factory! Any idea where a guy could source a set in that kind of condition?

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!! ILTIS!!!!!!!!!!! I am in the market for one to rebuild. Hoping to be ale to find something later in the year, if I can swing the cash. I started my military career driving one of these bad boys and have been looking for the right priced jeep for the last year. I LOVE THEM!!!! LOL Fanboy moment :p
