I love tax time!

Due to a nice return due soon (HA HA HA HA HA, I WIN THIS YEAR GOV'MENT!) I will finally have the funds to get my Iltis back on the road. I am very much looking forward to having gears 1, 2, 4, G and R!

My tires are still ok, but what would anyone suggest for upgrades (considering I use it for crown land camping and such)?

I never did it with my Iltis, but I have done it for the Pinzgauer. Civilian ignition upgrade. This will allow you to buy a dizzy cap off the shelf, not to mention the plugs. Ever price out the military plugs? Around $50 a piece.
 
Between difficult and none I'd say. Parts aren't as hard to come by as, say, NOS muscle car parts but having a friend in an army workshop would probably be a big help to you.
 
Still a few on Kijiji in Alberta and Quebec. And as far as the plugs go they are more then $50 a pop now (although it looks like there is a sister plug used for small aircraft...)
 
You guys who own Iltis trucks ever visit Ebay.De and search for Iltis parts there? Lots of stuff over there.
 
Just pointing out that there is more sources then paying $50 a plug, postage from Europe is not all that crazy. No doubt there is a pack rat or two sitting on a load of Iltis stuff.
 
Wow, lot of great pictures. Brings back nostalgic memories if my militia days in the 80s. Every time I see someone driving an Iltis (happens a few times a year at least) I get quite envious! Nice to see that there are a lot of examples in good condition. Gives me hope I might own one one day! :)
 
I have lots of pictures of Ilti (?), Iltises...(?) off-roading. They are always fun to get out with. It's amazing the abuse they can take and the terrain they can cover.

I think the Iltis would be the perfect vehicle for my boys to learn to drive on. Simple, not fast, forgiving and still unique enough to not be ridiculed too badly.
 
Just stuck something in the mount until my C-9 / M249 SAW shows up

We actually messed around with mounting PK machine guns and SGMs on the roll bars in A-Stan
 
Finally tracked one down in good condition...but now I feel as if it's in too good shape to actually use! 2500km on it, so didn't have much chance to be beaten up by Army drivers...

If anyone is interested I have some a couple of articles for the 1980's about the civilian Iltis and a Bomdardier brochure covering the Iltis. The articles are from the March 1980 issue of "Pickup, Van & 4WD" and the June 1981 issue of "Four Wheeler". They are pdf files. PM me with your email address and I will send them to you.

I remember scraping them out. There were some that were so rotten they were falling apart and other ones that barely looked used. We lined them up in rows in a gravel parking lot. Then they were loaded onto trucks. If I ever decide to get one, I will try to find an ambulance. I had the displeasure of helping do that and back in 02 we loaded up a ton of dispatch bikes into sea cans. I checked crown assets on a regular basis. Never saw them go up for auction. There were tri walls full of parts just dumped into scrap metal bins and dumpsters. What a shame.
