I'm a dumbass! UPDATED

The clickers work better with aging eyes.........so they tell me.

Hey Looky. Bit of a side issue on your point. A few years back, heading to Alberta for an Antelope hunt, I knew my eye sight was a little less than what it should be. My wife could read the the big pale green highway signs above the road before I could. Long story short, when we returned home, had the eyes checked and soon after had cataract surgery.:eek:What an improvement!!! And, to 'help' with shooting, I opted for special lenses that cost $1,500.00/eye extra.:d:d NO regrtets!!!

At my age and with more than 55 yrs. shooting experience, both as a soldier and a civilian, you think I'd have known better! To make a long story short, I picked up a gently used Weatherby Vanguard (.308) synthetic as a replacement for my too big and too heavy Ruger M77 Varmint rifle. I mounted the scope, got it to the range, blew through a bunch of reloads trying to find what it liked the best and couldn't get anywhere near the accuracy for which these rifles are renown. Now I've got a sore shoulder, and I'm ticked about the the wasted components. I get to cleaning it and then the light comes on (dimly at my age)!!! I start checking the screws on the scope mounts and action. EVERY ONE OF THEM WAS LOOSE!!!!! Now they're tightened up and lok-tite applied where applicable but I've wasted 110 rnds. of ammo. So, to all my fellow gunnies, learn from my stupidity. If you buy a used firearm, give it a proper and thorough going-over.

We all make mistakes believe me . and to admit to your mistakes means that your a man . not blaming it on someone else. I hope you laughed about it after .

Don't feel too bad Lawrence!

I've torqued a scope into QD rings, gone to the range and shot like schit, then at home realized I never torqued the rings onto the bases...just like medvedqc said. Mounted scopes with the windage knob on top? Yup that too.

Looks like you have a shooter there!

Yep always check the screws, I just got a Vanguard 223 welcome to the no. 30 torx club. I didn’t even know they made them that size! I always keep a few drivers in my range bag. Don’t worry I went to the range the other day to sight in a williams peep and do you think I brought the insanely small screw driver or my reading glasses to even see it? Still had fun with a little hold over.
