I'm a stickler for oddball stuff.

Any nice handling rifle with a slick action in 6.5x55 is a worthwhile acquisition, and bound to be a joy to own, carry, shoot and hunt with!

Personally, my current quest for a bit of an oddball in 6.5x55 is a Winchester 1885 Low Wall. But that is just me!
 
Well I'm impressed. All 3 ontop of each other at 50.

Didnt like my 100 grain loads (fine, they are for my coyote gun) but likes my 140grn ppu softy points with 45 grains of 4350.

It does however crater primers even at my starting load of 42. So, I worked up to 45. No signs of anything weird. Maybe a slightly large firing pin hole. Cratered even with some lighter 4064 100grn pill loads

I'll get a pic of my target in a bit.
 


I can't get an accurate measurement, but probably half inch or less on the impacts. 3 shots. I'm a happy guy.

That action in smooth. I actually thought I didn't pick up a round.
 
That's good news, hobophobe--looks like a shooter, and as you say, has a super smooth-operating action. Let us know how it does with other bullets. I'm particularly interested personally as I have two 6.5x55s.
 
I'll have to load up some 129s. I had similar results with 140 speers also.

Have to run the chronograph with these 140s. Should be in the 2600 range. More than enough
 
I think 140 grains is pretty much seen as the standard 6.5x55 bullet weight. One bullet that strikes me as worth trying is the 120-gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip. It has a good BC (.458) and can easily be driven to 3000 fps at safe pressures with the right powder (IMR 7828 and Alliant Re22 are two that come to mind) from a modern action and a 23- or 24-in. barrel. With its flat trajectory, I'd see it as ideal for pronghorn and small deer at extended ranges.
 
I was driving 129s from my 1640 at 2870 and I think I had 140s in the 2720 range.

As for moose, I do have a sportered and scoped p14 for that. Some 175 hornady rn shpuld be what the doctor ordered at around 2380.
 
Just to update, I have been trying some speer .263 120 grain hot cores. They so far group around .75 inches at 50 with 45.5 grains of
imr 4350 (45 to 45.5 didn't change size). Not as good as 140s, but thats good enough for white tail dirty work. Low recoil which is nice. It seems to really like 140s though.

I have some hornady 129s ill have to try.

Next batch of 120s are seated out further, see if that helps.
