I'm at an impass guys

I think there might be something wrong with me lads.

I've sold all of my milsurps now with the exception on a minty Indian SMLE.

I've re-invested in brad new hunting rigs and an AR15 20" 1:7 H-Bar for service rifle shooting.

My collection has totally changed and I'm buying new rifles rather than used exc+ gear.

What is wrong with me?
I'm supposed to be the Vintage Service Rifle guru here in Terrace!

Interests change. 25 years ago I had over 90 milsurps. Garands, a pristine Johnson, M14, over 40 mausers in different configurations. Mosins, both ruskies and finns (when i started buying M91 and variants they were $25 ea. and nobody wanted them). Japanese, west european, combloc. Then i just got tired of milsurps - and i moved on to different shooting and hunting rifles. The good part about being a gunnut is that there's so many different facets of the shooting sports that it would take 2 lifetimes to cover it all.

change

That's right , just a little more, come towards the light. We have a place for you here IN THE FUTURE! ! ! ! ! hAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA !! ! ! :yingyang::yingyang::yingyang::yingyang::rockOn::rockOn::rockOn:

Makes sense to me...

I get WAY more SHOOTING pleasure out of my hunting rifles than any milsurp I've ever owned. For me, milsurps are fun to play around with, but I' ain't reaching for a Garand or SMLE when I want to hit the mountains...;)

I find the most interesting milsurps I have have, are the accurate one's, which I will keep, after I sporterized them for hunting, some, without "butchering" the metal.

My most accurate rifle is a sporterized and scoped Swedish Mauser, which can shoot groups, in which bullet holes touch each other at hundred yards.

My sporterized Long Branch now shoots 1/4 to 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, using 165/308 Hornady bullets. I also made my own scope mount for this fine shooter from a piece of angle iron, which are bolted on at tree points, which was already at the reciever fot he gun, and which was fun to produce and install. I believe I can improve the accuracy of this fine canadian gun by mounting a 3-9 scope, rather that the set 4 power ?

Why not try something else, I am glad you had the guts to try something new, you might have regreted if you have not, good luck which your new shooting irons :)

Sit down and slowly sip a tall glass of Cragganmore or Oban scotch...smoke a nice Cuban cigar while sipping...you will soon see the error of your ways.
This is temporary. I sold most of my Springfield Armory stuff years ago and have been hard core collecting military uniforms and equipment...haven't really had the urge for more milsurps, though I do break into a cold sweat when I see nice Trapdoor Springfield.
Cheers

That's likley problem number one.

I've been to Terrace (on the way to Kemano), and I put my money on isolation craziness and maybe a little sleep deprivation from the long days...

:redface::D

Enough already! :)
I want black rifles!
They didn't have black rifles in "A Bridge Too Far".

How about real dark brown???
There were some Enfields that were painted black!!!
There is actually a black parkerizing...my Smith-Corona 03-A3 has the black parkerized finish.
Some deep blue finished Mausers "look" black.
There...problem solved...no excuses anymore....now go watch The Great Raid, or Band of Brothers.
Cheers

Yes there wil be.

There was supposed to be one in October except I had a scheduling dissagreement with the IDPA lead Bob (aka Canuck44) and ended up tossing it out of frustration.

I've made a brief rule set for it but think I need to make it a little more challenging. More info coming on this.

The Vintage Service Rifle Championship rules have been revised. Should be loading them onto my server shortly.
