I'm back!!!!

Sure would like to see a MZ hunt on the island, means I would have to buy one!

Anytime you see the Dodge MD, walk up the trail off BP road and come say hi - blind is only in there about 50 yards.

Saw 9 does / fawns in Alfies field the night before the season. Doe tag on the property I hunt is gauranteed meat - we rarely see bucks on that property though.

Hey there Chas.........

Since you would want to PRACTICE with a front-stuffer for a while before the new season is introduced, I will SELL you a lovely Knight .50 cal in-line, with EVERYTHING, ready to go, for less than $400 shipped. Scope, tools, pellets, bullets, sabots, caps, everything! :dancingbanana:

As a personal favour of course! :D

Ah, Doug ole buddy! Wondered where you've gotten to, sounds like you made out pretty good in the freezer dept this year anyways, thats good. Hey, how do you play hookey when your retired? Or does that mean from the Mrs?

Chas, ya, if your only 50 yds in I'll be sure to sneak up real close and let a belt out of my grunt call right behind your blind, hahaha. I'm heading out to the island again this week, gonna start getting the camps wood up and my moms wood up for next year already, probably try to sneak in some bow hunting soon as well.

Hey MD

I'm plannin on bowhuntin the island to hopefully fill my doe tag but had a question.

Should I go out and try right away startin Monday or do I wait a bit and let the deer relax from all the shooting?

I got work at camp ie leaves to be raked and sleds to get ready for winter....just wonderin if I'm wastin my time sittin in a ground blind or if I should be more productive while the deer get normalized.

Your thoughts?

They were just going into the rut when rifle season closed. Only about 3 or 4 scrapes on my lot and it wasn't till Thursday a big buck tore apart a few tag alders on the property line.

I don't think it would hurt to get out on Monday. Do some grunting and see what happens.

Spent 2 weeks hunting WMU 71 which has always had more deer than hunters and never even saw a deer. Thats 2 years in a row skunked. Lots of sign, scrape activity picked up mid 2nd week but did not have one deer show itself. Pretty discouraging! I definetly support the "deer numbers are down" theory!

Pat if you ever tear yourself away from work I could meet you at the Flying J and put some venison into your hands, you buy brunch! :D

I got a sneaky suspicion that right after the first shot is fired opening day the damn things go nocturnal.

We had a big doe standing right outside the backdoor when I got up for a piss at 3 a.m. Monday night. Yet we didn't see one deer all day on Tuesday.

Would like to try an archery hunt some time - the property owner where we hunt wont allow it as he thinks archery hunting is cruel - so I have never used my bow for anything more than punching targets.

I have a surplus doe tag for WMU 13 so heading to Nipigon this weekend for one last crack at it.

Holy crap Chas, be better taking a moose tag to Nipigon wouldn't it?

Never even knew there was much of a deer population there. I knew Thunder Bay and the Kakabeca Falls area was littlered with them but not Nipigon.

Strange as it is, theres only a few areas within 30 minutes of the soo that have decent deer populations. The area around the airport is probably the best one I can think of. North, East, South, and West all have good numbers though. We're just in a slow area.

Yet the deer population is spreading out which in turn is driving moose deeper into the bush and other areas.

The MNR even opened up WMU 35 to deer this year as well.

Now that the spring bear hunt is cancelled and black bears are killing calves as fast as they hit the ground it's even better to see that deer are taking to the cutovers to give all the moose brainworm. Pretty soon we'll be trying to get tags in N.B. because the way the brainless idiots in Ontario run things we should have no place to hunt (open spaces) and most likely nothing to hunt in the next few years.

Nice looking deer there fellow, but you have to love that pup.

Jack Russells are exceptional hunting dogs - out in Africa every farmer - hunter and PH has one.

I'm looking out for a pup here in BC.

Good stuff guys, love the cabin I always wanted a bar in the basement but I might have to reprioritize. I also like the deer mount.

I always saw Jack Russles in African hunting pics but could never understand how they used the little buggers.

That is a cool pic of your pup.

One of the best breeds for blood spoor, they have an uncanny nose for it. I have see a Jack Russel run over two K's after bleeding Kudu, the bull was only slightly wounded in the calf from a ricochet off a rock, the Jack Russel chased it into a bush and held it there until the Kudu was dispatched.
