I'm back!!!!

The neighbor down the road has a pair of Jacks that they have mated twice now. My kids ran home both times begging me to let them have one but I wasn't a real Russel fan. The breeding pair were real yappy so I just took a guess that the pups would follow suit. That little beagle in my pic only barked once the whole week and that was at a dead deer laying on the ground, hahahaha.

Not only mans best friend but apparently best drinking buddy.

The whole russle thing makes sense as a tracker the couple I've run into burned more energy in an hour than I could in a week.

Well I already filled the moose tag for up there so now for the deer tag - lots of deer in WMU 13 between Nipigon and Thunder Bay - especially in the Dorion - Hurkett area. I might head up to T.Bay west for a day to check some area out.

Swing into the Armoury right behind D&R sports. They got some nice stuff back in there. Good old used stuff. Also, the guy that has the little gunshop in his garage heading towards the Minn border has some awesome prices on his ammo.

I grabbed up some 250 Savage for $26 a box and some 20 gauge at $6.50 a box. Not cheap crap either, it was Winchester Super X.

heck, I sell .250 Savage factory ammo NEW at the shows for $20 a box. Joe you need to come south to a gun show.

GMK Armory - great place!

When I was a university student in Thunder Bay, a friend and I walked into the most well known hunting and fishing emporium, one that had the initials D&R in the name and walked around. We were broke, but we loved to fish, hunt and shoot and hell we would have worked for free if they had offered us a job!

As we left, one of the owners, who was the "D" in D&R looked at us and said in a pretty demeaning voice - next time bring money.

I never forgot that. Now I am 25 years older, make a very reasonable income, and go back to Thunder Bay a couple times a year. I alway go in to their store, walk around, look at things and have the sales folks ask what they can sell me, have them take stuff off the rack so I can look at it - and then I walk out and go to GMK and spend my money there.

I related this story to some of my staff as sort of a parable that when you treat people like s**t, they never forget.....

My staffs interpretation was different, in their opinion I am a vindictive bastard ......

Chas, I am with you 100%. I did buy a LOAD of stuff from D&R when they used to go to the Toronto Sportsmen's Show way back when.......but if they treated me like crap you can bet they would never get another thin dime!

I have to agree MD the deer pop. on the Island is not like it used to be..I started hunting there on the A line in 1994 and we always had our 3 tags filled by the 2nd day regardless if we had doe tags or not...Where I hunt now is a great area and there's lot's off deer around but you are right they are nocternl, As I 'm driving in in the morning to get to my spot, I have to shoo them off the road...but when daylight comes there no-where to be seen.....:D

I have a Beagle too, he's currently in Rehab and not much of a hunter. :D

should have called it fogducker:)

Why, look what that coon is doing to your poor beagle!

Never heard of Summit, for some reason when I see beer I've never tried I feel the need to go get some.

Chas, ever been to Pritchards? Just an older guy that runs a shop out of his garage. Kind of a crusty bugger but I was laughing my ass off by the time I left that garage. LOTS of guns there, if your looking for anything used. Wished I had made it back to his place, he was supposed to be getting some 358 Win in stock.

Doug, ya, I really do think I should get down your way to one of them shows this year. Let me know when the good ones are!

Joe the good shows are the ones I am at - Belleville, Perth and Eganville. Closest to you is probably Eganville, and it is the biggest around here. Always the third weekend of August.

And do you need some .358 Win factory ammo bud?

Doug

I picked up two boxes stateside when I took the kids down Easter weekend, now my scope won't align on it, thats why it didn't come deer hunting with me. Gotta shim the front ring and I should be good to go again.

I was out on the island today and watched a big 12+ pointer running doe's out in a field near my mothers. Had to drop some stuff off in her garage for the winter and noticed the bruiser at the last second. At least the doe's around her place will be getting bred by a good mature buck instead of the little spike horn my buddy saw mounting doe's last week on the other side of the island. Hey, I got till Dec 15 for archery, maybe I should hunting over at ma's, hot coffee when I get outta the stand to!

Got your email, congrats on that monster buddy, I'll lock my guns up for good if I ever pile one up like that! Congrats!

Well unless you crapped your pants there were no accidents, cause dogs unlike humans take great satisfaction from a good chit! They even go back and examine then to make sure all is done right!

Great hunt and good pictures as well,I have a feeder going now and my SIL has requested that I loan him my Mod 94 in 375Win for his 30 yard shot!

I will use the 92 in 45colt I think thats enough.

I notice alot of people freak out when I say I'm hunting deer with my 375 Win. I believe they first off think of the 375 H&H and can't believe your using something so big. When actually all the 375 Win is is a 38-55 with a touch more ooompf. It's by far one of the best deer guns I've ever used when hunting my hardwoods and pushing swamp. Wouldn't be my go to gun for the farm fields but I've got my 99A saddle gun in 250 to do the trick there.
