I'm confused...for once I'm satisfied with the hunting cartridges I own!?!?!

I get close...
Then I get silly ideas from this site as well as the EE section or see a big batch of ammo on sale in a store in a caliber I don't have lol. :p

Personally I think anyone who lives in Canada - "The GREAT White North" - and doesn't have a .375H&H is delusional .... and exposing himself and his loved ones to great personal risk!! I am in the GTA and can assure you that the threat of a stray polar bear wandering down my street is VERY real. They are fast, savage and big buggers!! That is reason enough for me - and any sane person - to add a .375H&H to their home arsenal!!

Well, I asked the Board about putting a mount for an M2 on my downtown lakefront condo balcony, but they said no........ something about aesthetics & by-laws & such....

Ive got a 17hmr, 223, 270 and just picked up a 243. I think that covers everything I need. For now. :)

Going to pick up a 22 for the ole lady this spring though

o/p, I agree with you on the "I need another calibre like a hole in the head" thought. I have been going through my collection and getting rid of rifles that I no longer shoot or single calibre guns. I have a more streamlined collection, since I reload. For example, in .30 Cal, I now 5 rifles in my collection that use a .308 projectile. (making it a whole lot easier to reload).

I'm in a scary place and it is a foreign feeling to me...but right now I have no desire to buy a gun in a different chambering that I do not own. Ever since I have owned guns, which admittedly is not near as long as some on this forum, I have always looked to the next gun before the current one even arrived. But after owning and selling a great deal of guns that I wasn't satisfied for one reason or another I have settled into 4 cartridges that I'm actually happy with. My HUNTING rifles now consist of 223, 6mm Rem, 270 and 300 win mag...And I finally believe that suits my needs. It's such a strange feeling, I always thought that this void in me would be fulfilled when I filled my needs, but now I am left with this confused feeling of not knowing what I should do next. I guess this is the perfect time to get my restricted licence, cause it wouldn't make any sense if my money actually made it to my savings account instead of being spent on guns...Anyone ever reach this place and have this kind of crisis?
Now I of course I can always change the exact firearms that I have in these chamberings, but even those I'm pretty happy with. And I could upgrade all my scopes, but again I'm pretty happy with them too...And there is that thought in the back of my mind that although a 300 win mag will handle anything I will EVER hunt, it would be nice to have a safari rifle in something no smaller than a 375 H&H, but that's not really a nagging priority for me, just a last case scenario if I can't find anything else to spend my money on. i wonder if there's a support group I can go to...

You have a number of problems that need to be addressed...

First and foremost... Why on this "green spinning ball," woulld you post on CGN that you are "satisfied" with your current battery??? What do you think is going to happen here... Give this thread another couple days and you will be working on two or three new projects!

Second, you didn't mention rimfire??? Was that an oversight, or are you just not dealing with them in this particular thread???

Third, you didn't mention shotguns... Or have you started a similar thread in the shotgun forum???

Fourth, you haven't said anything about your appocalypse weapon... Or is your .223 configured for Ruskies and/or Zombies?

Fifth, ignore your internal voice and those of the Fudd's that creep in the dark thickets of CGN... You DON'T need a .375 H&H... At least until you have taken care of some other business...

Sixth, you don't have your RPAL??? What up with that???

Seventh, what do you mean your current platforms don't "need" tweaking, er, eh, uh... Does NOT compute!!!

Eigth, weeeelll... Let's mull that over for now...

sorry...

I'm down to .243, .308 (x2), .30-06

I'm often tempted to acquire a 6.5mmx55, or a .25-06 ... but, with a .243 and .308, do I really need an 'in-betweener' ?

Speaking about inbetweeners ..
Wish I still had one of the 7mm-08's that I sold. *sigh*There is just something about 7mm's

if you want a new in box X-bolt lefty, PM me. I got a good deal for you!

So...you're completely satisfied with your current selection of hunting rifles...but you don't have a .375, or a .45-70, or any sort of 9.3mm, or a pistol-caliber-carbine, or a .308, or an SKS, or a Hornet...or...or...

...nah...I've gotta go back and re-read that original post again...

sorry...

Sorry didn't mention rimfires or shotguns, just speaking of my centrefire rifles that are my main hunting guns. Got 2 rimfires; auto, pump and sxs 12g; pump 20, a small takedown break action 28g for camping, a beater savage 340 30-30 and a marlin 1893 in 38-55

I am sort of in the same boat, but its a bigger boat.

cool collection! You would need a half dozen tables at the Brandon gun show to show all those.:p

I'm satisfied with my 5.56mm and 6.8mm SPC right now... Though a 30-30 lever and a .375 H&H are on my short list when I've saved a few pennies. Shooting a couple of caliber/cartridges well is more satisfying to me than having 40 rifles unused in a room.

Polar bear in GTA ?? Okay got it :)

Phew.
You guys just don't seem to be getting it, or so it appears to this still eager trigger vet.
Guns are as women are ... so, sooo, many beautious temptress' sashaying about out there ... forever yank'n a man's interest hither and yon .... .
Why settle down with comfortable and predictable?.
Give up the new cal. chase? ... that ain't never gonna happen.

i wonder if there's a support group I can go to...
We are here for you.
"My name is StevieK, and I am an addict"

Hang in there mate.

This thread as been interesting to see what members have and what some consider "complete" collections and others not quite there yet.

I presently have;

Shotguns: 16 gauge X2, 12 gauge X3,
Rifles: 6.5X55 X3 ( my favourite), .270, .270 WTBY, 7mm 08', .308, 30 06', 300 win mag, 30-30, 38-55 X3, 45-70 X2
Misc: .22 LR X3, 50 cal ML X 2

Clearly I need some sort of 22 centrefire and a .243 or .257 of some sort.

I'm not even going to list my battery... Basicly a truck load of rimfires, pulling a trailer load of centerfires with a boat load of shotguns... And of course enough reloading supplies to last through 2817 A.D...
