So Springfield '03s are basically not a rifle that we get in NZ.. AT ALL .. in fact ive never seen one in the flesh even.
What we do have is mausers in all of their original and refurbished states.. ive got a couple of yugo and CZ refurbs

heres where i go full heretic.

Ive always loved the springfield sniper rifles with the malcolm/unertl scopes. Would i burn in fiery damnation for all eternity if i put an 8x USMC unertl on a Mauser - since the springfield is essentially a K98, they do share much of the same aesthetic.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I should add i already have mausers with the ZF41 and and Z39 optics - so i havent ignored that aspect

There are many significant differences between a Mauser '98 and an '03 Springfield. I own examples of both. Too many to list here. But if your Mauser is non-collectible - have at 'er, Kiwi!

I for one don't care what anyone does with their property, however when you post in the Milsurp Forum about your intent to Bubba an otherwise original milsurp, don't act surprised and offended if others think it's a mistake.

Some make posts like yours in order to troll the "purists", but I don't see that here.

However - heads-up.

If you have a red head and wanted a blonde it would be satifactory to dye her hair IMO. Same with your rifle. Closest you can get to the real deal without breaking laws.

No trolling here, I know there are purists who will disagree - but there always are.
The rifle im thinking of using is a Yugo, in good used condition, and looks to be a late war manufacture, thats been refurbed.
I also have a 55 CZ K98 that could be used, depending which shoots better really. Havent actually put them down to group them.

As far as bubba-ing.. well.. im not sporting it, think of it as an experimental rifle :D

I can't blame you for trying to create one, they are beautiful rifles. But the various mausers are so much different, it would be hard to capture the essence. Attached is a pic of mine.

How difficult is it to import a rifle or parts/scopes to New Zealand?
How about coming the other way to Canada?

This' what I was thinking - would make the most sense even with exchange and shipping.

Also, I was under the impression that you can do your own paperwork in NZ? Would cut brokerage costs.
