Since 3 weeks ago, I've been checking the local stores for .45 ammo but no one has any. In fact, one store mentioned something along the lines of "we won't be getting anything anytime soon because the US Gov is hoarding all the ammo it can get for the 'war effort'".

I'm aching to shoot my USP and so, I come asking if anyone has some to sell: I'd want ~250 rounds. Please? :) :(

I know American soldiers, and told them that statement " the US need ammo for the war effort". They laughed and said ammo is cheap and readily available
in stores there. I heard the same thing about 5.56.. from what I've been told.. its a lie.
The war isnt being faught with .45's.. if the "war effort" thing was true, we would see a drop in .308 and .223 ammo here. No problems finding it.

There are always short-term, regional shortages of materials, but if you are patient you can always find what you want. Best to stock up when you have the opportunity. Right now, for example, there seems to be a real shortage of large pistol primers in western Canada. Just keep lookin. ;)

Yeah. .45ACP always seems to have its ups and downs as far as supply goes. Happens every year, usually around whenever all the IPSC competitions start gearing up.

If a 'little war' like that is drying up ammo, I'd hate to what a real conflict would do to strain ammo supplies. As others have stated, I don't think there is a real shortage.

Actually, our dept is very short on 5.56 and I was told it was due to US stockpiling, maybe not for Iraq alone? I just stated in another post that I picked up the last two cases of XM 193 and they advised surplus ammo was drying up and that ammo prices were jumping. About a 20% rise in Hornady .308 for me this week from last month. I'd have to say it's true in my experience but not for .45, Wal mart has lots but I noticed it's up from $14 per hundred to $17...

Wow, could you be more of a prick ? Seriously, do everyone a favor and abstain from posting until you can think of more constructive ways to reply.

On another note, I've found some at a Lebarons in Montreal, so I'll stop by and purchase a case: when I can free up more funds in the future, I will buy reloading equipment.

I'm sure P&D would be happy to help you out - last time I was in there (buying a Beretta 96, naturally) they seemed to have a pretty good stash of .45 ball. I don't know what they had behind the counter for expanding slugs, but they looked to have a few 500rnd cases of .45 kicking around that I'm pretty sure were for sale rather than display.

My comment was done "tongue in cheek" as a means to liven up the dialogue, don't take it personal, this site is supposed to be fun, haven't you seen some of the other planted opinions that are just for shock value and not real? Such as: Can I use an SKS for Moose,or "what kind of gun do I have?" or how about" where can I get ammo for .45 ACP?" See they're just planted questions to elicit some funny answers, and start a dialogue.

Very interesting, glad to know this.

You came across as a bit of a prick. This is why we have emoticons. :D

The war has much less to do with ammo availability than does the price of the raw materiels. We were told by our Winchester rep that there is lots available of most types (some natures are not being produced for some reason), but that we would have to pay 2007 prices in order to get it shipped. Many dealers have refused to do this.

Bingo. It's not just ammunition, it's everything. Even people like electricians or fabricators or whatever have been hit by the rise in the price and the decline in supply of metals. The big blame seems to go to China and its booming economy taking up a big part of the world supply.

Tell me about it - the price of steel sucks nowadays because everyone in China decided to buy a fridge.
