Im getting a 10 gauge browning or remington?

I shot a Remington SP-10 Magnum on Sunday. Nice gun, definitely would have purchased it. Only problem was you had to push the bolt release to feed shells into the magazine. A little filing and it would have been perfect.

I've had both and liked the Rem better. The browning was a little fussy about handloads, they had to be made perfect. You colud put anything through the Rem. If you are shooting factory ammo the choice comes down to which one you like most. They pretty much operate on the same principle. Both are simple to take down for cleaning. Glad you ar staying away from the browning pump. Had one of those too, worst piece of crap I ever had.

I like them both and have both. My older browning is a stalker and hates winchester hulls factory or reloads and tears them apart ejecting. Other than that all else works fine in her. But I have to be real careful handling it since the finish seems to mark easily. The later camo ones donot have the finish issue. My 1st 10ga semi many years back was a sp-10 which fired everything and I now have skhunters old one but have not shot it much so far but from his post looks like it is the same as my 1st one.
Try them both to see what one fits better. Both are great guns
Funny now but my BPS worked fine but kicked like a mule and would turn my shoulder purple after a few boxes of shells.

I've always found the Browning Gold 10 to handle like a 12gauge shotgun. It's a very smooth swinging and shooting gun. The Remington SP-10 just isn't quite as "lively" of a gun...feels bigger and heavier than it really is. Shooting it from laydown blinds can be a bit of a challenge. Other than that it's pretty much equal grounds for the two. Try both and pick the one that fits you best.

I have an SP-10. While weighing at 11 pounds unloaded, I've found it to be easy handling shotgun. Among the guys I know that have 10 gauges, all of them have either the Browning or the SP-10. Each guy likes his big 10. Mine fits like a glove. See which one fits and handles best for you. Either way you go, you will really like having it in the blind with you.

I owned a 10ga BPS and currently an SP10. The Browning didn't fit me worth beans but it's well made and worked good. The Remington is lots nicer to shoot (because is an autoloader) but mainly because it fits me. Its quite heavy tho. Not sure what the Gold weighs...
One factor I have noticed is that 10ga Rem chokes are easier to get around here, although I'm having some difficulty finding a Kick's turkey choke for it :(

I was on a 3 day snowgoose hunt this weekend. There were BPS's, Gold's and SP10's.

The 10 gauge pump is a mule....

The Gold is a nice gun. Not sure how long Duracoat finish holds up. One of the Gold's wouldn't eject Federal shells, the other Gold jammed once.

The SP10 just kept firing away...full of mud too.

The Gold is a nice handling gun and lighter than the SP10.

But the SP10 action seems pretty bullet proof. Just keep pulling the trigger.

Screw in a PM or WW choke and it is a true goose killin machine.

If you had both over a period of time you will find you take the browning 90% of the hunts. Both work but the browning handles and works better once you know the gun and what it likes to eat, plus clean it after every hunt.
The rem will shoot dirty the browning will not.Makes a difference also if the browning is one of the orignals with the steel receivers or a newer one with the Al.

Fair enough but I know my SP shoots anything I feed it anytime and I can shoot it so....

Not saying the sp is a bad gun. It was my 1st 10ga semi many many years ago, sold it when I got the 2nd browning for a back up gun, then picked up another sp just last year just to have the remington again since the originals were getting hard to find in good shape.
They are both the answer for geese regardless what the 12ga guys say
One thing is for sure the SP will never look as SWEET as a browning:stirthepot2:

I do agree that the Gold handles nice and is pretty.

And you are right about the 10 it is the King!!!!

I am looking to pick up another SP sometime just because.

Nothing wrong with having a spare. I do:D

Oh yes also glad you liked the BPS. I named mine the mule many years ago. Two days in the blind with that cannon and my shoulder is purple and I am a big 275 pounder. Not for the faint of heart is it.:D

I have an Ithica Mag 10 works flawless and I have no complaints on the performance. Some pop up on the EE time to time and I think its a fantastic firearm for a 10 ga. Mine feeds flawlessly from pretty much any ammo I feed it, occassionally I will get a stove pipe after fireing box or two.

I will admit that browning guns are prettier, the wood quality and finish is unquestionably better... but I don't find the reliability is on par with the Iticha Mag10/ SP10 IMHO.

Keep it clean and it will work hard for you.

For the record, I have several brownings and I do enjoy them. They look fantastic in my glass faced gun cabinet :D

Well as you know the ithaca is the sp-10 just the earliest version.Only problem with the ithaca is normally no choke tubes are fitted

It is all a function with the brownings of knowing what to feed yours and keeping them clean. Like I said I have two 10ga golds and one will cycle factory winchesters and one rips them to shreads always has. Both love remington hulls
Plus I reload all of my 10ga stuff which is a major difference.
All HD high speed duplex loads which have no problem ejecting. take care

I have a Bps 10 and love it , workhorse , always goes bang and recoil is never an issue when shooting at critters . My buddy has an old sp-10 and other than a couple recoil springs over the last 10 years or so has worked flawless for him . I have had clients with the nice new browning golds has feeding issues in the blind . I would have to say mainly from being dirty . This is where the bps shines especially in potato fields where there is mud everywhere .
