The Winnipeg Police Service ran a "Pixels for Pistols" program, where you can turn in a firearm for a gift card for a new camera.

Well, I just saw a picture of some of the stuff turned in. It includes a Sten and a full-furniture LE No. 4. Most of it is crap, of course, but they collected over 1,700 firearms in a month. That's a crapload of potential gems and projects that'll never end up getting the respect they deserve.

Most of the pictures I saw had pretty much just old hunting rifles and shotguns, but I did see a picture with an FN FAL and a fairly modern looking 1911 in it. Sad that these all will be melted down for nothing.

yeah i bet that cap and ball muzzle loader is on the top of the list for liquor store robberies
 
Jeezus, they should at least sell the NR and restricted to people who have the proper licence, at least that way they can recoup some costs of the program.

Wouldn't it be something if the police were able to MAKE money on this instead of spending it??

I was at a gunshow this weekend and a gentleman there was selling some no4's and some no1's that he purchased from a quebec police auction. He had 15 of them. I ended up buying 2 from him. Mostly all of them were missing mags and it pretty beatup condition but they would probably clean up well. The ones I bought still had the police evidence tags on them. Atleast the quebec police are doing something right. Wait.... did I just say that.
 
They could sell me the No4 and the lever that those two reporters are getting microscopic close ups of, I'll even give them one of those kodak wind up cameras as a trade.
 
The lever is a Marlin 336. The top-break is a Smith & Wesson .38 Double Action or .38 Safety Hammerless (can't see the hammer / grip to tell) or a clone thereof from any one of a dozen manufacturers that made them.
 
It's a $170 camera plus a coupon for a photo course for a functioning firearm, or a $75 gift card for ammo or a non-functional piece.

So the gun who turned in the Sten likely got half a digital camera. I'm going to throw up again.
