I think I am ready to join the club guys. I wanna build myself an AR-15. I may start with a stripped lower and a parts kit and go from there. I want some opinions on the best parts to get. I was half thinking about a dlask lower, but i'm not sure. I have what I want in mind but I am still doing some research.

Something like this rifle I found on ar15.com is what I have in mind...anything you can tell me about it would be great, like what upper assembly is that?

My advice to you: if you want gucci gear, buy a complete rifle first. A Stag Arms or DAR701 should do nicely. Importing the assorted "tactical" bits separately from the US ads up fast. Shoot it alot and decide what you like and don't like, THEN buy more expensive doo-flickeys when you know enough to separate the wheat from the chaff.
 
Go with a STAG Arms 2R from Arms East. Great value for an 'M4' style rifle for your first AR15. You probably should not build your first AR unless you've built a rifle before or know how it works/should work.

The accessories will come in time, but you must master the basics first.

For the first year at least.... base rifle and lots of practice ammo :)
 
That looks like the pirate rifles that were made for the guys on AR15.com.
Claven is right, get a complete factory gun up here then buy the other parts once you have shot it enough. Get a Stag 16 inch or Armalite 16 inch carbine. Stag is my preference. Armseast is good to go.
If you look through the parts exchange, you'll find all those parts as well. I think Greentips has a SIR 45c and ARMs 40 BUIS for sale. That is the rail and rear sight set up. Dave's Surplus can hook you up with the Tango Down vert grip and Magpul MIAD pistol grip kit. If you are just plinking, get a copy of the Aimpoint from Jacxcid. It comes with a knock-off ARMs mounting ring as well. One Shot Tactical can set you up with the single point sling plate and sling. Boltgun can set you up with a Surefire light system as well.
There you have it. It may cost you alot in the end, but you can certainly buy the parts as you go too.
To re-cap;
1. Buy a complete gun
2. Buy lots of ammo
3. Get some training
4. Train
5. Upgrade parts as necessary

ok, sounds like good advise. I really like stag arms and expecially the fact that the dealership is in NL. I may look into the 2R or 3R...

I was hoping to spread the cost out over a period of 6 or 8 months or so as I build up one from assorted parts. I don't need one right away...
