I'm happy... in a sad way. Or sad in a happy way?

It's time to buy a new pistol. Happy times.

My beloved Kimber 1911's are still a little out of the budget, as I've also got major housing expenses this summer (new deck, landscaping, not to mention the price of my house in Fort Mac... don't ask.)

So, I find myself reluctantly considering combat tupperware. Whatever pistol I choose MUST be in 45ACP. Because I said so, I'm set up to reload it progressively, and huge 230gr Speer hollow points look awsome.

My first choice would be an HK USP in 45, but they're a lot spendier than a Glock or XD.

I had an XD in 40, and liked everything about it except for the takedown lever; it beat the #### out of my weak hand thumb on recoil. Mind you, I find the recoil of any 45 I've fired to be far more comfortable and controllable than that of any 40S&W I've shot.

Should I choose an XD, I think I could taper the face of the TD lever to eliminate that problem.

Then there's the Glock. I'm considering a 21SF from Questar or whomever. I've searched and read all the threads on the Glock trigger (which I've hated each and every time I've fired any Glock...)

What I want to know is this: do any of the trigger jobs improve or shorten the crazy long reset of the trigger? Perhaps it's poor shooting form, but my best follow up shots are made by 'shooting the reset' rather than the pull.

By that I mean that I keep the trigger depressed after firing, and when on target for the follow up shot, release and press. I've found this works better for me for some reason.

So, happy that it's pistol time... sad that it's not 1911 goodness time.

What do y'all think?

In that price point I'd give this one a look. I have a 9mm M&P.... I like it.

I second the M&P... I have mine in 9mm and I love it. If I wasnt buying a Desert Warrior here soon, I would be picking up another M&P. But each to their own... I dont mind a glock either.

I have a new glock 21sf and I love it. I have no issues with the trigger and find the gun to shoot very accurately. I am very impressed with it. I would recomend it!

Get a USP. It's a pretty soft shooting gun for a .45 and fit and finish is much better than Glock or M&P (dunno about the XD). Its also one of the few plastic guns that gives you the option of SA/DA or DAO (I personally greatly prefer the former). It may cost a few hundred bucks more, but you get what you pay for.

If getting what you pay for was the only issue, I'd just replace the Kimber I sold last fall.

At this point, a USP is 40-50% more than the pistols being discussed.

I had a USP in 9mm that I was very very pleased with. Then some crackhead ####stains did a B&E and stole it.

I guess I skimmed through your post too fast - I thought it was one of the guns you were considering. Sucks about the B&E :( Was the loss covered by your home insurance?

Why don't you consider the STI. This is my Spartan but there are higher priced models such as the Trojan. Check Gunnars website at Armco.

I have a suggestion regarding the EE. There was .22 revolver for sale that was out of my price range, so i asked the seller if he would take monthly payments. He said yes and in about two weeks i will own my S&W model 617.

This gets me an excellent revolver, I love S&W probably about as much as you love Kimber, and i don't have to "settle" for a lesser firearm. No slight intended to other firearms.

The money you have on hand now will make a nice downpayment on a Kimber, if you can find one on the EE that you can do a layaway on,and it won't take all that long to pay it off.

It never hurts to ask.

Also this version of the M&P 45 has a manual safety.

I have shot this model.

The safety falls to hand.. er thumb rather, better than any other manual thumb safety I've experienced (and I've rented quite a few pistols over the years).

It shot well, but the trigger takes some getting used to. It's not match, but works well enough.

I preferred shooting the M&P40 though.

If you want an 1911 you don't need to sattle for a plastic gun... Kimbers are little expensive and not easy to find if you a specific model. Consider 1911 from Taurus they even look a lot alike (slide serrations, sights etc) you can get it for ~$850, blue finish model will be less.
