I'm in LOVE!!! with the S&W 460V

How practical is a Winchester Trapper? There are so many better guns out there........;)

last time i looked it wasn't RESTRICTED- the 460 et al are- besides, it's only b/u gun- i normally carry either a 308 ( a savage 99, which you no doubt will find something wrong with as well) or a 338 browning

Hey, RELAX.:) I was only poking fun at your *practical* comment. Last time I checked this was CanadianGunNutz, not PracticalShootingImplements.

Practical has about as much meaning as *need* to a lot of people when it comes to firearms.;)

BTW. There's nothing really wrong with the trapper. Way better than the 99 or the Browning.......:p;)kidding!:D

hey. i can be as impractical as the next guy- i've got a 12(3) and a few safequeens to back that up- as for the trapper, it's in 44 mag and normally across my back when i'm horseback- lots of cougar where we ride, and a big gun is clumsy

Well I'll go on record that the Win 94 Trapper in 44 mag just doesn't have what it takes...

Now if you were talking a LSI Puma M92 454 Casull that can also shoot 45 Colts now we're talking... :D

:pirate: beyond the hijack comment now. My gun guy got back to me today. $1299 brand new. Well here goes the saving. Now accepting donations, help a young kid out.

Having handloaded my .460 XVR 8 3/8" with Hornady's 250 gr. XTP's,I experienced NO problems with the firing of that bullet right up to the maximum book loads as the barrels are "gain twist" rifled which lets you get away with it.The real issue is whether the bullet will hold up on a deer or bigger critter and why Hornady pushes the XTP Mag. bullet for those applications.Having also loaded and fired right on up to max was the Cast Performance Bullet 300 grain gas checked, all with as heavy a crimp as reasonably possible and swapping out the muzzle brake S&W suggests using for lead bullets,I experienced zero problems with groups in the 2" and factory irons only.My eyes aren't what they used to be so maybe it's time for a pistol scope.

Simply because the XTP-Mag bullets are made with a thicker jacket and were originally designed for the higher velocity saboted muzzle loader rifle loads to hold together.

Now we have handguns that can generate the same kinds of velocities as muzzle loaders so we need to use the XTP-Mags in the 454 & 460 revolvers.
