I'm in Ontario. Any out of province shops that will save me the HST?

Hi,

Similar to the BC question thread, are there any shops that will only charge their provincial rate (best case is AB @ 5%) if I buy online and I'm in Ontario?

Hopefully with low/free shipping so I'm not offsetting any savings.

Also I notice that the AB sites have a field with the PAL info that asks for range membership (in ONT not needed for Restricted).

Any thoughts or suggestions as I hate sending any more of my money than I have to to Queens Park.

Thanks

FYI...there is no such thing as a GST only registration. GST/HST registrants must charge HST when delivering to a harmonized province, according to the place of supply rules in the Excise Tax act.

It's getting so bad that even PST is becoming required for non-resident businesses....particularly on digital services being provided to residents.

So you are saying because we have HST and not PST it gets added on anyways?

Not what I wanted to hear but thanks for the reply.

I liked it better when I was out there paying only 5% on everything...

you might be able to find a retailer who doesn't understand the requirements....but GST registrants should be charging HST when shipping to Ontario or the maritime provinces

Also, technically if they don't....you're supposed to self-assess on import...but I can't think of a single individual who would willingly do that (except for vehicles when the registration is added)

There could be small businesses trying to save customers a couple dollars in tax so they will get the sale. On low profit margains maybe there's incentive to skirt rules to keep everything afloat. It would be terrible to see someone get in trouble with cra over out of province taxes. Something about a Lip and a Ship?

HST has to be charged at the rate where the product is delivered. So if you buy from Alberta and have it shipped to Ontario, they have to charge you the Ontario HST rate of 13% regardless of what their rate is.
