I've been invited to a clay shoot this weekend by a friend and if it has anything to do with shooting, then I'm in like a tick on a dog.

I'm not much of a shot gunnner but I do go grouse and pheasant hunting every fall. My friend said he has a shotgun for me to borrow and all the gear and ammo.

What are some things to remember on my first outing?

I'm not even sure what kind were doing but like I said, if it goes boom... I'm there to give it a try.:D

Watch and listen, you will pick up body motion , timing , and much more (if theirs a hot chick shooting);)
Anyway , pay attention, and be safe on the swing Allways proof safe anytime you pick up a gun, well you know all that anyway, so be safe , and have fun. Oh ask what ammo to bring along, this is a must, but will never be mentioned by kind folks , so don't over look that,

I went out and had a blast on the weekend. (pun intended)

We did sporting clays I believe its called. There were six stations with 8 targets at each one. Really interesting for someone like me that uses the shotgun maybe 4 times a year.

The one with the rabbit was pretty neat and the poisoned bird was interesting as well.

Glad I went. Now for the next question... is there somewhere in Southern Saskatchewan to do this on a regular basis? I guess this was just a one off deal to kick off spring.

sporting clays in sask

go on the web and look up shotgunsports.sk.ca . On the page you will find trap skeet and sporting clay info. There are a bunch of shoots this year, Mossbank, hodgeville, regina are in the south. Some are coming up soon.

Lucky bugger! We shoot clays to help with our wingshooting. It helps to have your own thrower (the cheap one at crappy tire will work fine) so you can set up at common 'bird angles' and shoot repeatedly and also practice the weird stances that you always seem to be in when something flushes! :D
Just having your gun at your side when your buddy hits the thrower is enough to provide some real meaningful experience.
As far as organized shooting, if someone invites you to an "Annie Oakley" drop everything and go! Everone is in a line and multiple guys shoot at the same thrown clay in order. Its sort of a race and tons of fun. Enjoy.
