I'm looking at buying this beat-up old enfield to restore and I'm tired of trying to make sense of the marks. I have used all the online resourses and still come up with questions

Left side marking lightly stamped

#4/mk1/3 (F) (TR)
Is the above marks for a Factory through repair ? Being the "F" and "TR" are in seperate brackets ?

Marked on the ring at the back of the action on the grip part is a serial # then "S" or "5" and all that is below is 1942.

I'm lost As the last one I had had way more marks on the "grip strap?"
and I'm unfamilar with the left side marking...

What is it factory repair or ?
Who made it
And is this one which is quite rough worth fixing( I know they all are:rolleyes:) but it's pretty beat

I'm sorry about the terminology but I'm new to the milsurp resto game.

It was a No.4 Mk1*, made by Savage Arms in the U.S under the Lend Lease act. It went through FTR (Factory thorough repair) and upgraded to the No.4 Mk2 standards with a receiver hung trigger (compared to the trigger guard hung trigger).

As for restorability, is it sporterized or just old? If its just old, with the full stock, its best to leave as is. If its sporterized (stock cut) then a restoration is possible if you get the right wood set.

Pictures would be great.

#4/mk1/3 (F) (TR)

LeeEnfieldNo.4_mk1 is correct, To add, the (F) is for fazerkley, I would suspect the (TR) should have have been an (FTR). Is it stamped or electro pencil?

Was there a date like 2/53 on the side? Is the bore a 2 groove or 5 groove? Look on the side of the barrel for a date stamp.
