Hey guys. I'm limited on how I can find this out, I'm overseas right now and was just given a complete lakefield 400 action in 12 gauge. (minus the stocks, slide nut, magazine assembly and barrel)

Can anyone find out for sure (I have heard yes AND no) if the parts from a mossberg 500 will interchange, or rather if there are any parts that WON'T interchange?

I would really appreciate it, if someone could find out for sure and write me back here, so I know what to order.

Thanks guys

Ian

Barrels and stocks are interchangeable, not sure about the magazine assembly, as I don't have a 500 to compare with.

IMO by the time you buy all the parts, you could get a new 500. A new barrel with chokes will run you $180, plus the stock, etc. and a new 500 or maverick 88 ( also the same) can be had for $200-$275.

The newer 500's have a shorter slide assembly then the older 500s, so if you get a new slide, you'll need a new stock.

Old Style Stocks and Forearms for K850### serial number or older – action slide length 7-5/8”

New Style Stocks and Forearms for K850### serial number or higher – action slide length 6-1/2”

If you need more info, these are the guys to talk to:

Thank goodness. I saw on yahho questions a "gunsmith" said the barrels were different and althoguh they'd fit you could destroy the gun and cause injury to yourself.

It aint much money to fix up, I have a magazine assembly sitting around, and a stock set. The slide handle is already on it so all I really need is the barrel which I haven't ordered yet, and a slide nut and buttstock bolt and mag spring which the old man just picked up for me.
All in all so far the restoration minus barrel has cost $25.

Apaprently havlins is out of the 590 barrels (which I wanted) and the 18.5" accu-chocked heavy barrels. I'll have to find a barrel elsewhere.
Have any of you guys had/have one of these?
My father was saying the machining in the reciever looked better than the other newer mossy he has

Thanks a lot guys

I've had a 400g for 10 years, was my grandfather's before that. He bought it new in 1978 for $99 at a gun show. I bought a new 28" 500 barrel with the chokes for it and now have a 24" slug barrel and a 18.5" smooth bore as well.

Smooth as silk and easily stripped for cleaning. I like the threaded mag tube, great to take off and clean the spring.

The 590 barrel will not fit on a 400 or 500 as the mag tube has a different way of fastening the barrel to the mag tube. The 400 and 500 use a screw , whereas the 590 uses a nut to hold the barrel to the mag tube. If the 590 mag tube was used with a 590 barrel it MIGHT work, I don't know, I haven't tried it.
