Just wanted to gush a little, thanks to the people on here with their opinions and ideas and the wide variety of both people AND firearms available I picked and bought a great unit.

I posted about it a lot, and got teased for it.. but it turned out great.

I got advice on my scope issues, help with sourcing cheap ammo, and suggestions on best practices for cleaning and service.

My Savage Mako Edition 17HMR is driving nails so tight people at the range argue about whether multiple rounds go into the exact same hole without even extra paper damage. Every time I open the case people want to touch it.

The guys at phoenix were so into it the other day when they checked my ammo, they even forgot to charge me my range fee for the day and I was all set up and shooting before they remembered.

Everyone in the range wants to try it, and whether they're an expert shooter or a new plinker with his dads .22... they're doing loonie to quarter sized groups right off the start and loving the feel. I feel like I got something the big boys with their fancy assault rifles and big game hunting gear are approve of.

I got the 10 round extended mags from that website 17HMRMAG and they're great.

My harris bipod is comfortable and sturdy... the bushnell banner 6-18x50 scope damn near reads business cards at 100 yards and it's great fun to shoot.

So thanks Canadian gun nutz. My first gun is a great success and with the death of the registry I'll be keeping my eyes open for other great opportunities. Above all, I noticed this place has a lot less of the annoying arsehole forum trolls and haters than other forum sites I'm on are plagued by. I guess people are a little more polite when dealing with gun owners than with internet car guys etc lol

Anyone want to have a group BBQ at my place, go over firearms cleaning, shooting techniques, show off your toys, drink beer and hang out? Or if someone wants to donate use of their land which allows shooting too, I'll bring a propane tank and box of steaks.

so far great. 2,000 rounds for $500 shipping included from clay at prophet river... not a single misfire in my first 500 or so rounds through it... and not a single round off target from where it was expected to go... sighting in the scope notwithstanding.
allowing for my breathing and trigger work.... deadly results. looking forward to a longer test when i can get somewhere with a 100 and 200 yard environment.

If it starts to open at 100 + yards try some 20grn XTP :).

i'll pick up a case of those from clay when i get the chance... but i saw a photo from a guy at work of a coyote's head.. allegedly with 17grain poly tipped VSHOK... at around 150 to 200 yards.... (he claimed 200 of course so i deduct 25%)
opened that skull like a flower, and pretty impressive exit hole.. like fist sized impressive.

I love the look of this rifle. I have it on my wish list although probably in .22 lr
Glad to hear the good things about it.
My hunting and firearms safety course isn't until the first weekend of May (it can't come soon enough), then the long wait until my PAL :( Later this year this rifle will be mine.

PS First post, been lurking for a while but it's time to start participating :)
BTW I've learned sooo much from all the reading. Everybody seems so helpful. Thank you.

###y rifle.

I had my Savage Mako 17 at the range today for the first good day of shooting I've had with it since I got it. The thing shoots one hole groups at 100 with Hornady 17gr.

my barrel was fouled to #### with powder.. and it was still shooting like you describe... now that its cleaned I expect to be confusing people with how many shots i fire vs how many holes you can find on the paper. ;)

I intend on making quarter sized groups at 200yards. That will take some practice.
