For the last 25-30 years ive been collecting pistols that catch my eye.
some may not be considered 'Elite Class' pistols and some may very well be crap, but the heart wants what the heart wants.
so when i started down this road of pistol shooting a good friend of mine picked up 2 pistols and i picked up 2.
they where our first 2 each.
mine was a Ruger p89 in 9mm and a old clunker of a single shot 22 - a Herbert Schmidt (looks a lot like a ruger single six just not as nice)
my friend picked up a Ruger MK1 in stainless with the rosewood handles and he also picked up a Ruger single six with the interchangeable cylinders.
now, im not gonna pretend i didnt loath after his pistols.
something about the ruger brushed stainless and rosewood grips was just so nice.
fast forward years later and my dad goes and picks up a Ruger single 6 but in blued.
again my desire for a stainless single six is stocked but i cant seem to find one for sale at the time.
years go by again and every once in a while i check for one but i dont see anything i like or the price is more than i want to pay or i dont have money ect ect ect.
then last year the price on rugers skyrockets!
the stainless single six i want goes from 500-550 to 850-950!!!!!!
way more then im ever gonna spend on that gun, as much as i desire one.
so badly!
then last week im in the auto parts store and the older brother to a fella i work with comes up and asks me if i am finding everything im looking for, i say yes and we chat for a second about the upcoming Christmas that is only a day or 2 away.
then right when we are parting company he turns and asks if I still shoot pistols.
of course!
well, as it turns out he has not had his pistols (3 of them) out in a very long time, so long that he has decided he is gonna clear them out and put the money to his current hobby.
i smile and say thats nice.
he asks if i want some cheap ammo, he has some 40cal left over and no longer has the pistol.
he cleared out his 40 and 45 already with no problem.
then he says he has one left to get rid of, asks if im interested in a 22 pistol.
im not really (im thinking to myself - as i have a lot of them already - any i really only buy ones i actually want to shoot)
but to be nice i ask what it is he is selling.
Ruger Single Six in stainless with rosewood handles........
WHAT THE!!!!!!!
im stunned.
i ask when he purchased it, wondering if it was withing the last year or so when the prices skyrocketed or if it was a while back when prices where low.
he says it bought it 5 years ago!
so it was pre-price gouging!!!
i ask if he has a pic of it.... and he does right there on his iphone.... and it looks great!
picture has it in the box still and it is spotless!
i ask him if he shot it much.
he says no, bought it because he always wanted one and put maybe a box through it and never took it out of the gun safe again.
OMG!
so i ask what he wants to get for it???
$500 he says.
SOLD! I Yell!
now just waiting on the transfer.
i feel..... complete finally!
all these years and ive been nibbling around the crust and havnt committed to getting this pistol.
ive got 2 Herbert Schmidt's, ive got a Heritage Arms knock of of the Single Six but never a Single Six.
and now i have one inbound to me!
im not gonna lie, almost as happy as when my kids where born!
Then came the fun conversation.
Telling my wife i bought a Pistol for myself 2 days before Christmas.
After i told her that im cutting back on my purchases (i made it sound like i was being responsible when actually ive run out of safe space!!!!)
I tense up waiting for her to blow up and chastise me for buying the pistol....... but instead she looks at me and says.... your birthday is coming up in January, why dont i buy it for you for your present this year??
THAT gentlemen is why you marry a Farm Girl!!!!
so got a gun ive been dreaming of for years AND my wife is paying for it.
all i need now is a meatloaf sandwich and a little tickle fight in the bedroom and id be in heaven!
had to share.
ill put up a pic once the transfer goes through.
warning - pic may well be with me holding it and i may or may not have clothes on.... and oiled up..... both the gun and me.
