So, I have decided to dedicate 1/2 my hunts each year from now on to bringing along and educating new hunters.
I don't have a website, or a blog or none of that jazz. I'm not affiliated with any organizations..... I'm just a very well equipped hunter, that has had very good success filling the freezer and I see way too many new hunters , frustrated at lack of mentoring opportunities. I'd like to start doing what I can to help new hunters along and keep our hunting/firearms culture alive and well.

I would like to also attract other experienced hunters, FROM BC, who would not mind mentoring new hunters and making their contact info available either thru this thread or thru me privately.
if you are such a person, please contact me with your areas of expertise and what management units/regions are workable for you.
I'd hope that this thread can be used by new BC resident hunters, season after season, to reach out and connect with experienced hunters.

maybe you are like us, a couple of guys pushin 50 , kids are tied up in university and havin a couple extra hunters in camp adds to the atmosphere, makes the chores a lil more bearable and builds lasting relationships within the hunting culture.

if yer an experienced BC hunter interested in my crazy idea, use this thread to connect with other BC hunters.
would be cool to see the mentoring sticky expanded into a section for each province..... it all kinda turns into a blur in that thread.

I'll make a list of mentors who volunteer to have their contact info posted here in this thread.
I'm hopin folks like this idea and get behind it.

BC Mentor List

1) for myself, I hunt regions 2, 3, 5 , 6, 7a and 7b . My "expertise" is mule deer/blacktail deer and moose. (I'm also a former, BC salt and freshwater fishing guide/charter operator)
I can be reached here by p.m.
I'm centered out of Canim Lake BC , region 5-1

Sign me up. I'm way better at hunting paper with my rifle than I am with deer and would love to learn the ropes. I went to one of your clinics a while back with you and Joey so I know what I'd be in for :p

Excellent idea, Thomas. I am neither a newbie nor an expert and I have my hands full mentoring my family members, but some day I might be in a position to help out some people who are new to hunting.

I figure the first thing I want to set up is a group deer hunt in the any buck season.
With the hope that an animal is taken and the group can all get an in person lesson in gutting, skinning and field care.
I've already been talking with a couple newer hunters and hopefully I can help out a few more.

I have some other ideas as well , like a weekend camping trip and rifle sighting/ranging , some simple bushcraft ect.

I've got some ideas ;)

I would really love for somebody to do this in Ontario. I only have one hunter friend, and he's a truck driver so we've never been out hunting together. I've gone out a few times alone, but it's frustrating trying to teach yourself what you don't know.

45ACPKing,
This is wonderful and very generous idea.

As a newcomer to hunting, I will certainly take you up on your offer. There will be no shortage of others doing the same.

Best,

Hopefully some other experienced hunters.... Gooose/duck, pheasant, elk, white tail , bears ect... Sign up for this BC mentoring thread.

Hey Thomas,

I'd certainly take you up on the offer... I've been out with my in-laws a few times, but we're constantly skunked and I'm thinking there may be other methods we're missing. Let me know when you're thinking and I'll try to schedule some time off work and family to come learn!

Looky hunts geese eh?..... I wonder...

45Acpking great Idea :) I think you will have no shortage of mew hunters looking you up ;) Maybe me too

Wow, awesome idea. I for one would love to have someone experienced show me what to do in regards to hunting, I have been trying to find a buddy locally to show me the ropes but nothing so far. Two friends that usually get out for deer haven't been able to get out much this year. I really want to get out and enjoy the bush more and try to learn the skills needed to fill the freezer in the future. How do I find out more?

I live in the lower mainland but am routinely up in the okanagen, past Vernon along hwy6. Wife and I just bought property up that way and we have some family out there on her side of the family so I have no problem with traveling, in fact I look forward to getting out of the big ####ty lol.

As a journeyman meat cutter and a guy who has been hunting since he was hold enough to follow his dad, I feel more than capable in a couple areas, but I would love to know where the deer are in region 5;)
