I live in Woodbuffalo region in Northern Alberta. It has been raining here for almost 3 weeks now with no sign of it ending. Hunting season opened Sept 1 and with all this rain it's not fit to go out due to wetness and mud. Also in the rain and wet, the animals tend to just hunk 'er down and not move. This area is bad enough for mud and bog due to the merciless muskeg. I want to go hunting, but all I ask for is a dry day and I can't even get that. I'm really starting to get pissed! I should have at least 5-6 grouse shot by now and maybe at least 1 deer! So far I have SFA.

I have had a bit of success on wet days before, if it rains for a while and you know where they bed down you can get pretty close, the bush is nice and quiet and the rain takes away your scent. this has worked for moose and deer, I hunt in the heavy timber at the edge of the feeding areas, it is fairly dry under the trees, ...

i've been able to walk right up to moose during a downpour ( less than 20 feet ) and they are looking at you , but can't smell you .

it might just be a matter of dressing for the weather and putting out the extra effort to go out in the rain .

I've moose hunted up on Winifred Lake, kind of halfway between Wood Buffalo and here in Cold Lake.
There is lots of that peet bog walking, when you take a step, and the spongy material under you feet, shakes for about 30-40 feet away from you.

Yep, I know exactly what you are talking about. I like it when the muskeg and bog all freezes up and before all the heavy snow flies....you can just drive over all that with your quad then.

No season on calf here in bc yet lol I walked up to probably about 80 yards and then when they were trotting off stopped them about every 40 yards with a lost calf call, we were out looking for bulls as my dad has a draw but no luck, found a poached calf and small bull, they clearly poached them for the meat but left the whole front half of the small bull, so on top of being poachers they are waste ful slobs.

I'm a rain or shine hunter.
It's an excuse that the sunshine crowd dreamed up, that animals hunker down in the rain. Pure BS. They live in the weather all the time, they are used to it.
I've shot many big game animals in the rain
The only issue you will have, is lack of other hunters to move the game around.
