Has anyone used Imperial brass on an ongoing basis?...I've used a bit of it here and there over the years.

I have about 50 243 Win cases....since I'm back into a 243...I thought maybe I'd try some. Even have some Dominion 243's:D ....that's gotta be Fifties...?..when did they change the name to Imperial?

Rick,

I just formed a bunch of Imperial 300 Win mag brass to 358 Norma a few days ago. Had it up at the range today and it works fine.

Never had a problem with it, and I never hesiate to use it.

Ted

I used to use Imperial brass when I first started reloading. That was about 20 years ago. I only used it in a pair of 7mm Rem Mags. It is the only make of brass that I ever had suffer from head seperation. The necks would split regularly too. These cases were never reloaded more than 2x. After switching to R-P and WW brass the problem was solved.

Dominion was the same company as Imperial? learn something new every day.:)

Imperial Brass

Nothing wrong with Imperial/Dominion brass. At present I'am using DA'65 brass formed to .358 Win. Some military lots were as accurate as Lake City NM ammo. Just my .02c worth

Have a bunch of Dominion Cases in 8x57 and 300 Savage. Great cases, with lots of capacity. There is a bit of difference between these cases and the Imperial cases that started to show up when IVI took over CIL's manufacturing. These have a bit less capacity than the earlier cases, and I personally found the brass to be a bit harder in some lots. Still works fine as long as one respect the difference. The Earliest CIL made Sporter [not military] cases were Headstamped: D.C.Co. I still have a couple of boxes of those in 300 Savage. Regards, Eagleye.

Just picked up 45 DC Co cases in .455 Colt (the long cases, not the shorter webley cases available currently. Glad to hear it's good brass.:) Although out of consideration for the fact that they seem to be the old balloon head style, loads will be kept on the gentle side...;)

"...Dominion was the same company as Imperial..." No. Imperial was the brand name used by DA and later IVI. I've never had any problems with it either. .30-06 mostly.

i have been reloading for 25 years and the only place for imperial brass is the scrap box. the brass splits very often, and i have seen it split on once fired stuff. not worth the risk in reloading the junk or selling such brass.

Some lots of Imperial were crap, especially during thir last years of production.

Earlier Imperial was not bad. However the trick is knowing whow old your particular brass is ...... got a crystal ball?

Dominion brass was very good. I still load various boxes of Dominion in various calibers.

Maybe that was the problem with the brass I was using, it was late 70's, early 80's production.

A lot of this Imperial brass is now better than 30 years old, the Dominion is even older. Most of this old stuff MUST be annealed or the necks will crack the first time it is run into a sizing dies due to age-hardening of the brass. Once annealed however there is very little on the market today that is more uniform in dimension, concentricity and weight.

I had a few Imperial as well as some Dominion in a batch of once fired brass I recieved, all of which didn't pass inspection and were tossed, junk in my opinion.

I'm running imperial thru my 303 brit, seems alright, the only problems I've had with case heads seperating have been from winchester, federal, and some no name brass....my imperial seems to hold up well, some are on 6 reloads already.
