Import Ban on Surplus Ammo?

Pretty much every science teach I ever had said that mercury is fun to play with and they all did it in school. They obviously didn't get enough brain damage to prevent them from getting a couple of university degrees. So limited exsposure can't be that bad.

I blew up a mercury thermometer while at nait, and my chem prof (a PHD) simply scooped the mercury out of the beaker. I asked why he did that. He said mercury isn't as bad as made out to be. Pure mecury is almost harmless, while mercuric salts are what can cause damage to living stuff

To get ammo approved for import, NRCAN have to test it first. They now refuse to test any ammo with mercuric priming. Johnone mentioned that he has a mountain of 8mm ammo in Yugoslavia that's going to probably go to the US, as he can't import any of it here.

Thats sucks. I have about 400 rounds of Yugo 8mm left and it is really nice stuff, hot but accurate.

Fortunately the european surplus is still available.Apparently 7.62&39 will no longer be available from the states as there are too many canadian terrorists getting there hands on it.

Is the NRCan refusal to test surplus ammo derived from a policy decision not to import this ammo, or is the refusal based on a health and safety issue for the NRCan employees who are exposed when they have to test this stuff?
