Import from europe

I haven't, and I'll be interested to see other responses, but I have seen several UK gun shops that claim to have experience and license to export to Canada.

I've seen bunch of threads on the subject. If I recall correctly you need a Canadian import certificate. The biggest chunk of the money goes to freight and storage.

Yes I have imported from the UK 10/15 years ago. The last time I checked, 2019, with an export agent over there it cost a minimum 650 pounds ($1230 Canadian at todays exchange) for them to process the export. You will also need a Canadian federal import approval. That was free but had to be done as much for the UK exporter to prove that it was legal for you to import when they applied to the UK government to export.

Also depending on which international airport you a closest to will dictate which airline has direct flights from the UK airport they will ship from. In my case they had to use Air Canada and AC had extra fees to store a firearm. I believe at the time around 150 pounds ($260).

In the end everything worked out. I got my gun (non restricted shotgun ) and was very happy. The more expensive and or rare the gun the more pacitale it maybe because the percentage cost of the export is fairly high.

Hope this helps

I’ve done it about 6 times from France. Not for about 4 years though. Canadian Import Certificate is easy and free . Export Certificate From France was easy for the sellers and a modest cost. Then, best of all, the French PO would accept them and the Canadian PO would take it from them. No broker required. I would typically receive the gun 10 days after it got shipped. Would have to pay duty and taxes as figured out by post office based on bill of sale with shipment. Shipping cost around $100. While I haven’t tried again for a while something makes me think the EU tightened things up.

So I should buy the gun out of A European country who’s postal service handles shotguns. Any instructions on getting the Import certificate?

Google CERS and go from there. Not sure there is a country out there that has a postal service that handles shotguns internationally...

I've done Czech Republic, Switzerland and Germany. I see you are in Ottawa so make sure you check that Air Canada - your only option for YOW - still flies to the country you will be importing from. They really cut down their service due to COVID and they will absolutely not do interline transfers for firearms so even if a partner that shares a flight code flies somewhere, doesn't mean they will take a firearm.

Do make sure that you get customs and pickup taken care of ASAP - storage charges are by the day.
