So what's the poop on importing a rifle, antique or C&R, from a US dealer that has an export licence? The gun wouldn't be antique in Can., as a repeater, but can I just send a PAL copy, and ship away, or need an importer?
This has likely been beat to death, but can't find it. Thanks.

Correct, for non-restricted & used with no other foreseeable DHS or ITAR issues (up to you to look into this of course), then it should come across no issue. If you include a copy of your PAL for reference I imagine that could speed up things in the event of a border delay. Declare the item obviously.

I brought a caplock across last year, it didn't even stay over in customs (straight through). I had not included a copy of my PAL but nobody enquired. That's only my example, others may have different.

As long as it is antique in the US it can be sent USPS. If it's not antique then USPS postal regs prohibit shipping firearms in the mail.

Send the seller a copy of your PAL and have him pack it in the box with the gun where it will be found by CBSA when they inspect the package. Tape it to the stock so they can't miss it - make it as easy for them as you possibly can.

Make sure the name on the PAL is the same as the name on the shipping address of the package. The documentation should mention the make, model, barrel length, and caliber. Otherwise it can be held up for a longer period while the CBSA does an "investigation" to determine if it is restricted or NR.

"...from a US dealer that has..." The question is will he do it?
"...or C&R..." That's strictly a U.S. ATF bureaucratic nightmare thing. Means nothing here. Good thing too. There's a huge amount of mandatory paperwork involved with C&R stuff.
"...USPS postal regs prohibit shipping firearms in the mail..." Don't think the USPS will ship firearms outside the States either.

Muzzleloaders are not conciderd a firearm by the atf so there is no problem shipping them here.USPS is what i have used before.Just send a copy of your pal for the Canadian border boys and your golden,i've had 8 or 10 shipped this way.The problem is getting them{Americans}to ship up here most posties don't even know the rules.

Americans who hold an FFL (Federal Firearms License) will ship a modern rifle to a licensed dealer in Canada, as a rule. That, of course, depends on the attitude of the American in question. Some won't for any reason. I talked with a U.S. border agent this fall when I went to Montana about this: according to him, the biggest issue with a Canadian purchasing a weapon in the U.S. is having a permit to purchase. The best thing to do is go online and check the regulations pertaining to the purchase of a weapon on U.S. soil by Canadians.

Here is a good link for this.

Don't worry what the USA requires, what matters is that you get the gun. If it's a non-restricted they can ship it to you in the mail and when it arrives at your door pay the taxes etc and be happy. Probably you will not be asked for a PAL as customs and the mail don't really seem to care. We imported actions from a number of countries and we would do the customs clearance ourselves but sometimes with a broker. We were NEVER asked for a PAL and that was when they had to be registered which we did after they arrived. Not technically legal but this is the way the CFO set it up. On one occasion I went to the USA to pick up a rifle from a shipper and US customs had me go and pick it up to return to US customs on the way out, all the paper work was in place. Again not technically legal but to the customs supervisors credit it made a difficult situation very simple and logical. So.... be sure your paperwork is correct and deal with whatever comes up with a smile!

Sunray, you are FOS. I've had literally dozens of antique firearms shipped from the USA by USPS. Why do you comment on subjects that you know absolutely nothing about???

"Don't think" - that's the only accurate statement you made. You have confused your opinion with reality, but your opinion is wrong as often as not. Here's a new concept - if you don't know for sure then just don't say anything. There are new people on the forum that haven't yet learned to ignore your blathering.
